ALC Eagles Volleyball concludes successful week with pair of victories

Pippa Passes, KY: On Saturday, October 18th, the Alice Lloyd Lady Eagles volleyball team returned to the Perry Campus Center for a pair of contests. In game 1, they would battle the Welch College Flames (TN). They would then follow that up with a match against the Miami Hamilton Harriers (OH). After the final spike had been recorded, the hosts would leave with a nice pair of victories, giving them three on the week, and run their record to 17-8.

Match 1

ALC-3; Welch -0

The Eagles would take the first match with a straight-set victory over the Lady Flames (5-10).

In game 1, the Welch women stayed close early, and were tied with the hosts 9-9. After that, a quick 6-0 Eagle burst lifted ALC to a 15-9 lead, forcing a timeout from the visitors.

From that point, the lead grew to eleven (22-11). Eventually, a kill from Jadyn Hall handed the 25-18 victory to the Caney Creek crew. 

Game 2 saw the Lady Eagles take a 9-9 tie and move it to a 19-14 advantage. To their credit, Welch rallied with an 8-3 burst, to tie the score once again, 22-22.

Much to the delight of the home fans, Kyleah Ward delivered a kill on the next play (23-22). That was followed by back-to-back kills from Rose Scotello. This sudden turn of events ended the match, 25-22.  

Game 3, saw the determined Bluegrass ladies come out of the huddle with their best play of the day. After an early 5-5 tie, the Pippa Passes posse exploded with a massive array of shots. They would score twenty of the final twenty-four points, enroute towards a 25-9 match-clinching victory. 

For the match, the victors led in kills (39-24), assists (35-20), service aces (9-1), and digs (48-47). Individually for the Lady Eagles, Ward (8), Taylon Hoskins (8), and Scotello (7) led in kills. Gracie Gibson and Peyton Taylor led with 8 digs apiece while Taylor distributed 25 assists. The quartet of Gibson, Taylor, Hall, and Camryn Thompson each served 2 aces.

Match 2

ALC-3; MH-2 

ALC would have a tussle on their hands, but eventually take the 5-set comeback victory over the team from Ohio (4-10).

In game 1, the clubs battled evenly before the Harriers took an early 13-9 lead. From there, the hosts would scrap back and knot things up at 19-19. Unfortunately, for the blue and white, with the northern squad clinging to a 21-20 lead, they would combine a trio of kills with a service ace to pull out the 25-21 win. 

Game 2 saw the Lady Eagles hold a small 10-8 advantage, before they exploded with an 15-5 blitz to win going away, 25-13. 

Game 3, saw MH regroup and race out to a 13-7 cushion. Although ALC would get as close as two (18-16), the Buckeye squad closed the set with a 7-4 run to win, 25-20

 Game 4 was critical, as the Harriers sought to end things. They took a quick lead, held it, and eventually moved ahead, 14-11.

Thankfully, the Bluegrass ladies knew what was at stake, and they retaliated with a momentum-changing 8-1 blitz. The hosts now led 19-15, and rode that all the way to a 25-17 win to force a tie-break set. 

Game 5 saw the Ohio crew open with a trio of scores (3-0) and maintain it to a 12-9 lead. Later, they appeared on the verge of a road victory when they led 14-12, and needed just one more point to clinch.

Happily, in crunch time, the Lady Eagles saw Hall take over the contest.  First, she would deliver back-to- back kills to tie the score at 14-14. Then, after MH committed a critical error to put the hosts ahead, 15-14, Hall promptly smashed another ace. Her scoring outburst proved the difference in a nice 16-14 comeback victory. 

Over five closely-played sets, the Eagles led in kills (60-45) assists (56-42), and digs (92-84), while the two squads tied in service aces (7-7). Individually for the Lady Eagles, Hoskins (14), Callie Butler (11), Christa Amburgey (10) and Ward (10) provided double-digit kills. Gibson (27), led in digs while Hall (14), Thompson (12), Taylor (11) and Scotello (10) also reached double-digits. Taylor was an assist machine, raking in 51. Scotello led with 2 aces.
