Alice Lloyd Lady Eagles win overtime thriller over Point Park University, 77-73

Pippa Passes, KY: Senior guard Hannah Kash poured in 32 points to spark the Alice Lloyd Lady Eagles to a big 77-73 overtime victory over the Point Park Pioneers. The contest took place on Saturday, February 17th.

The game marked senior day for five Lady Eagles. Kash, forward Madison Thompson, forward Madison Ward, forward Riley Schreck and guard Hannah Malcomson all took the court for the final regular-season home contest of their careers.

In the opening stanza, sparked by the play of Gillian Piccolino, PPU came out on fire, pouring in 26 points. Although ALC would counter with 7 points from Kash, the Pennsylvania club would lead by five (26-21) after ten minutes of play.

In the second quarter, the hosts tightened up on defense and held their opponent to just 4-20 shooting. At the offensive end, the blue and white would drain 9-17 shot attempts. Kash would enter the dressing room at the half with 16 points in the ledger. Because of this, the Lady Eagles would lead 41-37 after twenty minutes.

In the third stanza, Piccolino scored all but one of her clubs 10 points. On the other side, Kash would produce five of her teams 15 points.  This would enable the Pippa Passes posse to increase their lead to nine points (56-47) entering the final ten minutes of play.

Down to their last opportunity, PPU turned to Piccolino, who placed her team mates on her shoulders, and led a comeback.

Kash would connect on a charity toss with :08 showing to give her crew a 66-63 edge but Piccolino would bag a heavily-contested trifecta, just before the buzzer, and send the contest into overtime.

In OT, Kash would bag her own bomb, and later add a free throw to put the Caney Creek club ahead 74-70 at 2:01.

Point Park's Piccolino sank her own jumper to slice the deficit in half (74-72), only to see ALC's Thompson swished a pair of clutch free throws to push the Eagle lead back to four (76-72).

The Pioneers sank 1-2 foul shots to get within a single possession at :25, but Alice Lloyd junior guard Katie Jo Moore stuck a crucial charity toss with only :09 ticks remaining to ice the win for the Bluegrass ladies.

For ALC (11-15; 6-10 RSC), Kash led the way with 32 big points. She added team-highs of 9 rebounds and 5 assists.

Just missing double figures were Moore, Thompson and freshman guard Abby Maggard, all with 8 points. In addition, Moore added 8 rebounds and 2 steals, Thompson added 7 boards and 6 mammoth blocks and Maggard chipped in with 5 caroms of her own.

The eastern Kentucky team finished shooting 35.6% (26-73) from the field and 34.8% (8-23) from long range. They also sank 77.3% (17-22) from the foul line while adding 55 rebounds, 14 assists, 11 blocks and 5 steals.

Piccolino tied for game-high scoring honors with 32 points. Her squad (16-8; 9-6 RSC) finished shooting 33.3% (28-84) from the field, 25% (8-32) from behind the arc and 50% (9-18) from the charity stripe. They also added 57 rebounds, 11 assists, 8 blocks and 10 steals

The Lady Eagles close out the regular season next Saturday, February 24th, when they journey to the Buckeye state to face a solid Ohio Christian University Trailblazers squad. Tipoff is set for 1:00 PM.
