Alice Lloyd Lady Eagles drop tough battle to Ohio Christian University

Pippa Passes, KY: On Saturday, February 3rd, the Alice Lloyd College Lady Eagles returned home to face the Ohio Christian University Trailblazers in RSC action. The hosts fought hard against their formidable opponent before falling, 87-74.

In the opening stanza, OCU rode the one-two scoring punch of Ashley Deweese and Emma Koons to shoot 50% from the floor. Despite ALC receiving a couple of bombs from senior forward Madison Ward, they only managed to connect on 26% accuracy. This enabled the visitors to pull out to a 23-14 lead after ten minutes of action.

In the second quarter, senior guard Hannah Kash led a Lady Eagle resurgence as she pumped in 11 points to help her club get within six (42-36). A late bucket from the Trailblazers set the halftime score at 44-36.

In the third stanza, the Ohio squad would emerge from the locker room on a 12-6 burst in the first three minutes to pull out to a 56-42 cushion. Despite the Caney Creek club receiving a dozen points from Kash, OCU would roll off a 26-17 advantage to pull ahead, 70-53 entering the final ten minutes of play.

 Down to their last opportunity, the Pippa Passes squad would come out on a 11-4 burst to get within ten (74-64) with 6:12 remaining, but consecutive buckets by Ohio Christians Deweese ended the threat.

For Alice Lloyd (10-12; 5-7 RSC), Kash had a huge game with 36 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists. She sank 11-26 field goals and 11-12 free throws.

Freshman forward Jamie Cowan, would contribute a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds and led with 2 steals. In addition, senior forward Madison Thompson added 10 points, 6 rebounds and 2 blocks, Ward chipped in with 8 points and senior forward Riley Schreck nabbed 9 rebounds.

The eastern Kentucky team finished shooting 35.6% (26-73) from the field and 18.5% (5-27) from long range. They also sank 85% (17-20) from the foul line while adding 49 rebounds, 13 assists, 6 blocks and 3 steals.

Deweese and Koonz led the winning team (17-5; 8-3 RSC) as both rammed in 27 points. Koonz registered a rare triple double as she added 12 rebounds and 10 assists. Their squad finished shooting 51.4% (36-70) from the field, 44.8% (13-29) from behind the arc and 40% (2-5) from the charity stripe. They also added 38 rebounds, 28 assists, 6 blocks and 7 steals

The Lady Eagles return home on Tuesday, February 6th, when they face the Shawnee State Bears in the top-half of a critical RSC doubleheader. Tipoff is set for 5:30 PM.
