Alice Lloyd Lady Eagles drop decision at Indiana University Kokomo
Kokomo, In: On Thursday, January 18th, the Alice Lloyd College Lady Eagles took the long trip to Kokomo, Indiana to battle the homestanding IUK Cougars. The Kentucky squad was plagued by frigid shooting all night long, and fell to the Hoosier team, 77-67.
In the opening stanza, ALC was limited to just 23.5 % shooting while their counterparts shot 37.5%. This allowed the Cougars to lead 14-12 after ten minutes of action.
In the second quarter, the hosts heated up, bagging 5-6 long bombs, and producing 24 points. Despite ALC senior guard Hannah Kash, pumping in 16 first-half points, her club would trail 38-24 at the half.
In the third stanza, the Lady Eagles would see freshman guard Abby Maggard heat up, to the tune of 10 points. This would enable the Bluegrass ladies to slice the deficit to ten (53-43), heading into the last quarter.
In the final period, the Pippa Passes club would put together their first impressive run of the game to jump-start things, Over the first 3:27, they would unleash an 12-0 blitz, with 7 points from Kash. Suddenly, with 6:37 remaining, they had their first lead (55-53), and the momentum.
Unfortunately, the visiting squad would regroup and regain the advantage with back-to-back hoops. They then pulled away down the stretch by draining their last seven foul shots to preserve the victory.
For Alice Lloyd (9-8; 4-4 RSC), Kash, would drill 11-22 attempts (5-10 3FG) to lead everyone with 30 points. She also led the way with 3 assists and 4 steals.
Maggard would sink three trifectas and add 13 points, while senior forward Madison Thompson ripped down 11 rebounds and swatted 2 shots.
The Eastern Kentucky team finished shooting 30.1% (25-83) from the field and 23.7 (9-38) from long range. They also sank 72.7% (8-11) from the foul line while adding 49 rebounds, 12 assists, 2 blocks and 5 steals.
Olivia Dowden paced the winning team (4-11; 1-6 RSC) with 16 points. Her squad finished shooting 46% (29-63) from the field, 33.3% (7-21) from behind the arc, and 85.7% (12-44) from the charity stripe. They also added 47 rebounds, 14 assists, 3 blocks, and 5 steals
The Lady Eagles return to the hardwood on Saturday, January 20th when they visit Saint Mary of the Woods College in Indiana. Tipoff is tentatively set for 1:00 pm.
