Dominant First Half Propels Alice Lloyd Lady Eagles Over Indiana University Kokomo
Pippa Passes, KY: The Alice Lloyd College Lady Eagles utilized the hot hand of senior guard Hannah Kash to race out to a 50-24 halftime lead, and cruised over the Indiana University Kokomo Lady Cougars, 86-73. The River States Conference matchup took place Thursday, January 19th.
In the opening period, the hosts broke open a 2-2 tie by scoring the next 15 points to vault ahead, 17-2. Kash, along with backcourt mate Katie Jo Moore, shined on offense with 16 combined points on 6-6 accuracy. ALC would lead 24-10 after ten minutes of action.
In the second quarter, Alice Lloyd would take the stanza 26-14behind a dozen Kash points. This would enable the Caney Creek crew to enter intermission with an impressive 50-24 cushion. Kash would register a -point-a-minute in the first twenty minutes of play.
In the third period, the visitors would attempt to bounce back as they picked up their offense to trim 10 points off the deficit. Still, when Lady Eagle Shelby Stewart drained a long bomb just before the buzzer sounded, her club led 67-53 heading into the last ten minutes.
In the final quarter, the Cougars refused to go away and would get within nine points (80-71) with just 3:04 remaining, but it was much too-little- too late as the Pippa Passes squad remained in control to earn the nice victory.
For ALC (13-4; 6-3 RSC) Kash led all scorers with 32 points. She also handed off 7 assists and nabbed 5 rebounds. Sophomore guard Moore, along with her classmate, forwardMcKayla May, both pumped in 15 points on a combined 12-16 shooting. They also tied for the lead in rebounds with 7. Freshman guard Stewart chipped in with 10 points while senior center Bailee Brainard had 3 steals.
The victors won shooting 47.7% (31-65) from the field and 39.1% (9-23.9) from long range. They connected on 78% (15-20) from the foul line, and added 40 rebounds, 13 assists, and 11steals.
IUK (2-15; 2-7 RSC) was led by Alaya Chapman with 16 points Her squad finished shooting 41.5% (27-65) from the field and 19.2% (5-26) from long range. They connected on 70% (14-20) from the foul line. They also added 36 rebounds, 18 assists, and 9 steals.
The Lady Eagles return to action this Saturday in a huge conference showdown at home against St. Mary of the Woods.Tipoff is set for 1:00pm (EST).
