Lady Eagles Remain Perfect with Double-Overtime Victory over Asbury University, 68-65

Pippa Passes, KY:  The Alice Lloyd College Lady Eagles welcomed the Asbury University Lady Eagles to the Perry Center and "Coach J Court" on November 9th. In a contest that took two extra sessions to decide, the hometown Lady Eagles earned the big 68-65 decision.

In the opening period, points were hard to come by as neither squad could find the target. Eventually, ALC sophomore guard Katie Jo Moore would sink two baskets, and the score would read 9-9 after ten minutes of action.

In the second quarter, the defensive battle would continue as Asbury took the period 10-8. This would enable the Wilmore squad to enter the locker room leading 19-17 at intermission.

Unfortunately, as the third period began, AU would produce the first run of the night. The Wilmore club rolled off a 9-0 burst over the first four minutes, and with 6:00 showing on the clock, they led 28-17. The guests looked to be in complete control.

The Pippa Passes squad finally warmed up and closed the period with an 18-12 run. However, they still trailed 40-35 at periods end.

In the final stanza, ALC would get four points from senior guard Hannah Kash to start a rally. Finally, when freshman guard Shelby Stewart drained a jumper at 6:52 that capped off a 9-2 run, the host Eagles had finally retaken the lead, 44-42.

From that juncture, the squads traded buckets to the end. With .14 remaining, Asbury would get the ball and hold for the final shot. Fortunately for the home fans, a driving layup attempt to win just ahead of the buzzer bounded off, forcing overtime.

In OT1, the combatants played cautiously, looking for only good shots. Finally, with the scoreboard reading 59-59 and .34 remaining, the Caney Creek crew would get the ball back from an AU turnover. The hosts would get two good looks at the hoop, but both would bounce off, and the game headed to overtime 2.

In the second overtime, Asbury went ahead on a free throw (60-59), only to see ALC answer with consecutive jumpers from Kash, and Moore, followed by two free throws from sophomore forward Madison Thompson. Suddenly, the home squad led 65-60 and could finally breathe a sigh of relief as they sealed the contest with free throws to end the exhausting game.

For Alice Lloyd (4-0), Moore led the way with 18 points. She was followed in double figures by Stewart with 14, Kash with 12, and senior center Bailee Brainard with 10.

Thompson chipped in with 6 points and was a beast on the glass, ripping down 19 huge rebounds. Brainard and Kash completed double-doubles as they snagged 13 and 12 rebounds, respectively, while Brainard also swatted 2 shots. In addition, senior guard Tori Hampton contributed 3 steals, and five different Eagles handed off 2 assists.
