Last-Second Goal gives Alice Lloyd Soccer 2-2 Tie at Toccoa Falls

Toccoa Falls (GA): On October 6th, the Alice Lloyd College Eagles journeyed to the Peach State to face the homestanding Toccoa Falls (GA) University Screaming Eagles. A thrilling, last-second goal from the Kentucky squad would enable the game to end in a 2-2 tie.

In the opening half, the squads were strong on defense until the 40th minute. At that juncture, Alice Lloyd's Dylan Moore maneuvered the ball and kicked the first goal of the game (1-0). However, just before the half, TFU would answer with a score of their own. The horn would sound for intermission with the contest knotted at 1-1.

In the second half, nothing changed until the 81st minute. At that point, the Screaming Eagles would manage a crucial goal. Now the hosts led 2-1, and just had to hank on for nine minutes to preserve the W.

ALC battled furiously, but were unable to connect against the Toccoa defense. As the ball entered the final 30 seconds, the Kentucky boys still had not broken through. Finally, with just 1 second remaining, the Pippa Passes squad looked to attempt a shot. It was off, but a foul was whistled on the play as the horn sounded. The Caney crew would now receive a penalty kick.

Given new life, Moore would get the call for the men in blue to see if he could deliver once again. Happily, under intense pressure, he delivered a superb kick, and drove the ball just past the outstretched hands of the Toccoa Falls goalie. The home fans were stunned as the contest ended in a 2-2 tie.

On the day, TFU (3-7-2) fired 6 shots compared to the Eagles 5, and both squads had 3 saves, with Joseph Westphal serving solid net duty for Alice Lloyd. The Screaming Eagles held a 6-2 advantage in corner kicks, while ALC led in fouls, 5-3.

The Eagles (1-5-2) return to action on Friday, October 13th, when they host the Great Lakes Christian Crusaders from Michigan. Game time is set for 3:30 p.m.
