Harrodsburg, KY: On November 3rd, the Alice Lloyd Eagles soccer team traveled to Harrodsburg to play the opening round game of the Mideast Regional Tournament against Great Lakes Christian College (MI). In a contest that was tight throughout, the Crusaders from Michigan ended the Eagles year with a 3-1 victory.
The game started out great for the Eagles. At 6:15, Ethan Perkins took a pass from Isaiah Collins and found pay dirt. The Caney Creek club led 1-0. From this point, however, shots on goal would prove hard to come by.
At 15:05, a goal by GLC tied things at 1-1. Just ten minutes later, the Crusaders would find the back of the net once more, and lead 2-1.
Later, at the 36:25-mark, Great Lakes found an opening and took advantage once more. Now the score stood 3-1, and it would remain unchanged at intermission. GLC would lead in shots at the break, 17-3.
In the second half, the defense was solid as neither club could break through with a momentum-changing goal. ALC got off 7 more shots, but none found their mark, and the game ended with the score unchanged.
On the day, the Pippa Passes club was limited to 10 shots and 5 shots-on-goal, compared to the Michigan squads 34 and 19. The victors had 5 corner kicks compared to the Eagles 2, and led in fouls, 7-4.
On offense, ALC's Perkins had the single score, assisted by Collins. Defensively, ALC goalies Joseph Westphal and Alex Acey combined for 16 saves.
The Eagles (4-8-2) finish their inaugural season with a very respectable 4-8-2 record, and were competitive every game. With a team comprised completely of underclassmen, Coach Juan Landers squad will look to make even greater strides next year.
