Alice Lloyd Soccer Earns First Win in School History
Powell, TN: On October 4th, history was made on Caney Creek as the Alice Lloyd Eagles earned the first soccer victory in school history, defeating the home-standing Crown College Crusaders, 7-5.
ALC Coach Juan Lander's chargers came ready to play and quickly scored the opening goal at the 4:28 mark when freshman Dylan Moore took a Corbyn Jenkins pass and lined it into the net (1-0).
Crown then responded in a major way. They would score goals at 8:52, 11:43, and 27:24, to sprint ahead, 3-1.
In desperate need of a big play to settle the club down, the Pippa Passes boys saw Isaiah Collins deliver. The freshman would boot an unassisted goal at 30:52 to slice the deficit to one, 3-2. Then, just before intermission at 43:55. Collins would make the nice assist to Javier Polly, and the freshman would power a shot into the goal. When the horn sounded one minute later, signaling halftime, ALC had tied the score, 3-3.
In the second half, the Eagles struck pay dirt at 52:00 when Moore scored his second goal of the game to give his club the lead (4-3). Then at 62:00, Moore struck again, taking a pass from Collins and angling it into the goal for his third score. Now the Kentucky squad led 5-3.
Just three minutes later, Alice Lloyd would witness Jenkins advance the ball downfield and connect on an unassisted goal (6-3). Then, to cap off his big day, Moore would unleash a strong kick at 68:00. This goal delivered his club a 7-3 advantage and him his fourth score of the day.
Coach Lander would then utilize his bench over the final twenty minutes, as everyone contributed. Crown would add two late tallies, but the final score read 7-5 and handed the Caney Creek crew the sweet historic victory.
On the day, the Eagles were the aggressors, firing 33 shots on goal compared to the Crusaders' 17. Both squads had 10 corner kicks, while Crown led in fouls, 17-6.
On offense, Moore led the way with 4 goals, while, Polly, Jenkins, and Collins each had 1. Collins led the squad with 2 assists, while Polly added 1 of his own.
ALC goalie Joseph Westphal was impressive behind the net as registered 3 saves. Alex Acey came in the last 15 minutes and saved 2 shots of his own.
The Eagles return to action on Thursday, October, when they travel to Boyce College in Louisville for a 4:00 pm matchup.
