ALC Basketball falls at Kentucky Christian University, 86-74
Grayson, KY: The Alice Lloyd Eagles traveled to Grayson on Thursday to battle the Kentucky Christian Knights. The hosts would break the contest open in the second half and take a 86-74 victory.
In the first half, the two squads traded baskets before the Knights went on a run to lead 24-14 with 7:36 showing.
However, sparked by 13 combined points from senior guard Koji Anderson and junior forward Naz Welch, the Caney Creek crew went on a 21-14 burst to get within three, 38-35. A KCU trifecta just before the halftime buzzer sent the hosts into intermission leading 41-35.
In the second half, ALC opened with several good looks, but none of them hit the bottom of the net. This enabled Kentucky Christian to pill out to a 48-37 lead. From that point, KCU's D'Angelo Stoxstill heated up to help his club extend their advantage to as much as seventeen points. Although the Eagles cut the deficit down to ten, they would get no closer as KCU held on for the victory.
For ALC (3-10), four players would reach double figures. They were led by freshman forward Evin Eversole with 16 points, 9 rebounds, and 1 block. Anderson finished right behind with 15 points and 3 steals. Welch and senior guard Alex Rasnick both chipped in with 11 points. Rasnick and junior guard Aden Slone both had 2 assists.
On the night, the Eagles shot 40.8% (29-71) from the field, 37.5% (9-24) from long range, and only 53.8% (7-13) from the foul line. They added 33 rebounds, 9 assists, 8 steals, and 1 block.
KCU (3-6) was paced by Stoxstill with 19. His team shot 51.6% (33-64) from the field, 41.7% (10-24) from long range, and 62.5% (10-16) from the charity stripe. They added 42 rebounds, 20 assists, 10 steals, and 3 blocks.
