Eagles Drop Decision to Brescia University
Pippa Passes, KY: The Alice Lloyd Eagles hosted the Brescia Bearcats on Saturday, January 7th, in River States Conference action. The hot-shooting visitors broke open the game with a big run in the first half and pulled away for the 98-81 victory.
The Eagles played well early as junior forward Damon Tobler pumped in 10 early points to lift the Caney Creek club to a 20-13 lead at 11:58.
However, over the next two minutes, BU would go on a 12-0 run to jump ahead 25-20 at 9:56. They were just heating up.
From that point, the visitors would put on a shooting clinic as they drained seven trifectas to roll off a massive 23-5 run. Suddenly, at 5:19, Brescia led 48-25. They would hold a 54-35 advantage at intermission.
In the second half, the Eagles would shoot over 50% from the floor as they fought to reduce the deficit. Unfortunately, the Bearcats remained on fire, shooting 62%, as they held on for the 17-point win.
For Alice Lloyd (8-8; 3-4 RSC), they were paced in double-figures by Tobler, who led all scorers with 23 points. He was joined in double-digits by senior guard Bryce Slone with 12 points. In addition, junior forward Ben Soumahoro and freshman guard Koji Anderson chipped in with 10 points apiece. Senior forward Will Philpot led the way with eight rebounds, while Anderson nabbed three steals and dished off five assists.
ALC shot a solid 56.1% (32-57) from the field but just 28.6% (4-14) from behind the arc. They sank 65% (13-20) from the foul line and added 29 rebounds, 19 assists, and 11 steals.
For Brescia (7-4; 4-3 RSC), Tay Smith led six double-figure scorers with 19 points. His club shot a blistering 60.3% (38-63) from the floor and 50% (14-28) from behind the arc. They hit 72.7% (8-11) from the foul line and also added 26 rebounds, 25 assists, and 21 steals. The squad leads the nation in steals.
ALC returns to action next Tuesday, January 10th, when they host the Asbury Eagles in the final non-conference matchup of the year. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
