ALC Eagles Baseball defeat Kentucky Christian University, 5-2
Pippa Passes, KY: The Alice Lloyd College Eagles (23-12) baseball team returned to the home field diamond on April 7th to face the Kentucky Christian University Knights (17-16) in a nine-inning contest. The boys from Caney Creek jumped out to an early lead and made it stick on their way to a 5-2 decision.
The hosts jumped out quickly in the second when Aaron Rothballer (DH) belted the ball over the left field fence for a 1-0 lead.
In the third inning with a runner on base, Diego Rodriguez (2B) laced a homer over the fence to deliver another pair of runs. The Pippa Passes punishers now led 3-0. Later, a wild pitch would gift "The Pass" another score, and the hosts led 4-0
The Knights halved the deficit in their portion of the fourth, using a single and sacrifice to plate a duo of runners. The scorebord now read 4-2.
Things would stay close, but in the sixth, Alice Lloyd gained more seperation when Kyle Compton (2B) smacked an RBI-double to raise their advantage (5-2).
Although KCU would gain a single in each of the final three innings, the runners would not advance any further, clinching the 'W' for the boys in the blue and white.
At the plate, Rodriguez wielded the big bat, finishing 3-4 with 2 RBI's and a homer. Compton added a pair of hits and Rothballer also smacked a four-bagger.
Colton Lovelace started on the mound, one of seven pitchers the home squad used. Ryan Grubbs, Quentin Williams, Braydon Norton, Gibbs Cochran, Trenton Williams, and RJ Broome all appeared in relief. The group combined to allow 9 hits and 2 runs (1 earned) while walking 0, and whiffing 3.
The Eagles took the hitting battle 9-8 and each club committed 1 error.
