Alice Lloyd College Baseball earns pair of victories over Miami Hamilton
Pippa Passes, KY: The Alice Lloyd College Eagles baseball team (17-12) hosted the Miami Middletown ThunderHawks (5-16-1) in a two-game series on Wednesday, March 25th. The hosts would take the opener in walkoff fashion and rally in the nightcap to earn the sweep.
March 25th
Game 1
Alice Lloyd-7; Miami Middletown-6
The hosts would rally from a 6-3 deficit to win in dramatic fashion on a homerun in the seventh.
Miami jumped out quickly using a series of singles to plate a pair of scores in the first and another run in the second. This lifted them to a 3-0 advantage.
Over the next three innings, the Caney Creek clubbers would power their way back to a tie. In the bottom of the second, John Lopez (RF) blasted a homerun (1-0) This was followed in the next inning by a solo shot from left fielder Jayden Huff (RF). Then, in the fourth, a Lopez doubled knotted the score up, 3-3.
In the fifth, the Buckeye squad answer with a three-spot of their own to double up the Creekers, 6-3. Once more, the Blue and White would rally.
In the bottom of the fifth, Cole Bishop (C) would slam a homer of his own to cut into the lead (6-4). Then in the sixth, ALC would gain a pair of runs to tie, with doubles from Kyle Johnson (CF) and Carson Tate (2B) providing the fuel. Now the contest was tied once again, 6-6.
After the ThunderHawks went down quietly in the seventh, Aaron Rothballer (DH) led off for "The Pass". He promptly tore into a fast ball and drove it over the fence to secure the comeback and hand the thrilling 7-6 win to the Eagles.
At the plate, Lopez led the way going 3-4 with a homer, a double and 2RBIs, while Tate had 2 hits. The squad blasted 4 homers.
Colton Lovelace started on the mound for ALC and allowed 4 hits and 3 runs (1 earned) on 4 hits in 4.0 innings of work. He stuck out 1. Elijah Breeding went 0.1 innings and gave up 3 hits and 3 runs. Braydon Norton came on the final 2.2 innings and took the win. He allowed only 2 hits and 0 runs.
The victors won the hitting battle 11-9 and led in extra-base hits, 7-2. They also committed 1 error, compared to MM's 2.
Game 2

The Eagles fell behind quickly then rallied late to earn the sweep.
The Buckeye club would use a pair of doubles, two singles, and an Eagle error, to produce 1 run in each of the first three innings. They would hold a 3-0 advantage heading into the bottom of the fifth.
However, in that bat, ALC would use a double from Eric Lazzo (1B) and a single from Diego Rodriguez (SS) to reel off 4 runs and take the lead, 4-3.
Miami would slug a homer of their own in the sixth to make the score 4-4, but in the Eagle portion of the inning, a double from Austin Byrd (CF) and RBI hit from Rodriguez led to a trio of scores. This pushed the Creekers to a 7-4 lead. They would close the contest in the final inning to end the festivities on a good note.
At the plate for ALC, Kyle Compton (3B) was a perfect 3-3. Rodriguez and Byrd both registered 2 hits and provided 2 RBIs.
Jacob Ayers started on the mound for ALC, allowing 4 runs on 4 hits in 5.2 innings of work. He whiffed 2. Ryan Grubb went 0.1 inning with 0 hits while Anakin Floyd set the visitors down in the final inning in order, striking out 2.
The Eagles doubled up their foes in hits, 8-4, and had less errors, 2-1.
