Alice Lloyd Volleyball plays pair in Indiana

Oakland City, IN: The Alice Lloyd Lady Eagles volleyball team traveled to the Hoosier State on Saturday, September 14th, to face a home-standing Oakland City University club in the River States Conference opener for both squads. They then faced a Roberts Wesleyan (AK) team in a non-conference showdown. The Kentucky squad battled hard, but much to their disappointment, dropped both.

GAME 1

OCU: 3; ALC: 1

In the opener, the home team grabbed an early lead and slowly pulled out to a 18-13 cushion. At that juncture, the Lady Eagles rode a huge 12-3 burst to roar back and take the win, 25-21.

Game 2 saw a 5-5 tie before the Mighty Oaks uncorked a massive 20-6 blitz to close the game and pull out the 25-11 win.

Game 3, saw Oakland City maintain their dominance as they blew out to a 15-5 cushion, and cruise on to a 25-10 win.

Game 4 saw the Lady Eagles focused as they refused to roll over. They would pull out to a 13-9 lead and fight to hold on. Later, trailing 19-16, they would promptly pull off a 6-1 run to go ahead 22-20, and force a Lady Oaks timeout.

Poised to force a tie-braker game, the Pippa Passes ladies saw the Indiana team regroup and score off a service error and four big kills to turn the tables and close out the match with a 25-22 victory.

ALC's Kyleah Ward was a force with 15 kills while Taylor Hamilton handed out 24 assists. Camryn Thompson  and TK Ellis both had a service ace. Ellis and Jadyn Hall tied with 13 digs while Thompson chipped in with 11.

GAME 2

Williams Baptist: 3; ALC: 2

In the opener, the game was tight for the first half until ALC ran out to a 21-14 cushion. They then held on for the 25-20 win.

Game 2 saw the Arkansas crew pull out to a small lead and manage to keep it. A small run at the end gave them the 25-18 win.

Game 3, saw the Pippa Passes team put on their most dominate display of the day as they roared out of the gate with a dominate performance. They would maintain their poise as they earned the impressive 25-13 win.

Game 4 saw the Lady Eagles look to clinch the match. With the visitors holding a narrow 16-15 lead, they would fight valiantly to keep it. Later, clinging to a 23-21 cushion, they would witness Williams score the final four points to lift the Razorback squad to a 25-23 win, and force a 5th set.

Game 5 saw neither team give an inch as both showed how badly they wanted the victory. With Williams leading 11-10, they combined a pair of Eagle errors with a pair of kills to complete the comeback and take the match, 15-10.

For ALC, Hall (12)  Ward (11), Ellis (11) and Rose Scotello (10) all had double-digit kills, while Hamilton handed out 28 big assists.  Ellis and Hamilton each delivered a pair of service aces. Gracie Gibson was huge with 39 digs while Ellis and Hall chipped in with 26 and 22 digs respectively.

Alice Lloyd returns to the hardwood on September 20th when they journey to New Albany, Indiana to face the Indiana University Southeast Grenadiers at 7pm.
