Alice Lloyd Volleyball Finishes Home Schedule with Two Conference Matchups
Pippa Passes, KY: The Alice Lloyd College Lady Eagles volleyball team hosted two River States Conference opponents in the final two home contests over the weekend. On Friday, October 28th, they faced the Brescia University Lady Bearcats. One day later, they welcomed the Oakland City Lady Oaks to town. Both contests were hard fought but went to the visitors, 3-1.
Against Brescia (3-7; 2-13 RSC) in set 1, the visitors jumped to a 10-6 lead. Then, they slowly pulled away en route to a 25-16 victory.
In set 2, with the score knotted at 6-6, the hosts exploded with an 8-0 burst to pull ahead 14-6. ALC would control things the rest of the way and take the 25-19 decision.
In set 3, the Bearcats pulled ahead and led 20-16 before the Caney Creek crew battled furiously to tie the contest at 20. The two clubs traded scores until the scoreboard read 23-23. BU then managed to pull out consecutive kills and take the game, 25-23.
In all-important set 4, the Bearcats crept out to an 8-3 lead as they looked to end things. However, Alice Lloyd exploded with their best display of the day. First, they rolled out a 7-2 burst to tie things at 10-10. Next, they continued the run, as they extended it out to a 20-12 cushion. The massive 17-4 blitzkrieg appeared to have things headed to a tie-break set, as the hosts now led 20-12. Incredibly, Brescia rallied.
To their credit, the Owensboro team fought back and finally tied things at 23. Finally, with the contest knotted at 25-25, a BU kill, and ALC attack error completed the Bearcats' stunning 15-5 roll, and ended the game 27-25
For the match, Kristin Isaac and Caroline Parsons led ALC with 14 assists each. Brooklyn Cheek smashed 8 kills, while Kyleah Ward and Adreonna Schutz had 7 apiece. In addition, Jenni Droke led with 23 digs, Ward contributed 3.5 blocks, and Chandler Mcafee smacked 3 aces.
October 29th
The opening set saw ALC score the first five points (5-0). OCU would stay within striking distance, but the hosts never surrendered the lead and took the win, 25-22.
In set 2, the Ohio squad roared out of the gate and never let up off the gas. They tied the score by cruising to the easy 25-10 win.
In set 3, the squads both looked to seize the advantage and battled point-for-point. With the clock reading 20-20, Oakland closed with a 5-1 run and took the win, 25-21
ALC had to win or go home in set 4. The Pippa Passes crew fought hard and only trailed 13-12 at the midpoint, Unfortunately, the Oaks closed out on a 12-4 run and took the 25-16 win.
On the day, Isaac (12) led ALC in assists. Schutz and Elizabeth Mcintosh tied with 8 kills. Droke led with 14 digs and 1 ace, while Ward registered 2.5 blocks.
The Lady Eagles (7-15; 1-12 RSC) will next journey to Midway (KY) on Tuesday, November 1st, to face the central Kentucky squad in conference action at 7:00 pm.
