Alice Lloyd Volleyball Hosts Two Conference Tilts Over the Weekend

Pippa Passes, KY:  The Alice Lloyd College Lady Eagles volleyball team hosted two River States Conference tilts over the weekend. On Friday, October 14th, they faced the West Virginia Tech Golden Bears. One day later, they welcomed the Indiana University Southeast Grenadiers to town.

October 14th

Against Tech in set 1, the squads traded blows early before the West Virginia club seized possession and pulled ahead 21-15. ALC then went on a 7-2 run of their own to shrink the score to 23-22. However, Tech used a kill and error to their advantage and took the opener, 25-22.

In set 2, the hosts exploded out of the gate on a 10-3 blitz. They would still lead 18-11 before the Golden Bears went on a huge 11-4 run to tie things at 22. WVT would then get an ace, and 2 kills to pull off the 25-22 comeback win.

In set 3, the Caney Creek crew battled furiously and had the contest tied at 16-16. Unfortunately, the Golden Bears would close with a 9-2 run to take the game, 25-18.

For the match,  Kristin Isaac and Caroline Parsons led ALC with 15 and 14 assists. Kyleah Ward smashed 8 kills, while Lakyn Porter had 9. In addition, Jenni Droke led with 25 digs, Ward and Brooklyn Cheek both contributed 4 blocks, and Adreonna Schutz smacked 3 aces.

 October 15th

The opening set was close early, with IUS leading 13-10. However, the visitors would manage to close out on a 12-6 run and take the game 25-16.

 In set 2, the Indiana squad roared out of the gate 11-3. ALC regrouped to get as close as 6 points (15-9) before IUS pulled away to win, 25-18.

In set 3, ALC had to win or go home. The Pippa Passes crew demonstrated true grit as they battled to a 19-19 tie. However, once again, the Indiana squad had a little more gas in the tank than their counterparts. Southeast sealed the contest with a 6-1 finish and earned the 25-22 win.

On the day, Parsons (13) and  Isaac (12) led ALC in assists. Ward had 7 kills, while Droke led everyone with 21 digs. Parsons and Isaac both had 1 ace, and Ward and Cheek both registered 2 blocks.

The Lady Eagles (6-12, 0-9 RSC) will next journey to Rio Grande, Ohio on Tuesday, October 18th to face the Red Storm in conference action at 7:00 pm.
