ALC Lady Eagles knockout Grace Christian Michigan, 91-41
Wyoming, MI: The Alice Lloyd College Lady Eagles basketball team ventured to the Wolverine State on Saturday, February 7th, to do battle with the homestanding Grace Christian Tigers. This contest belonged to the Kentucky crew from the onset as they rolled to an impressive 91-41 victory.
In the first period, led by 10 points from forward Jamie Cowan, the visitors got out of the gates well. After ten minutes of action, the blue and white led 20-8.
In the second quarter, the Lady Eagles spread the wealth as eight different players dented the scorebook. At the same time, their defense held the Tigers to only 4 points. By the time the haltime buzzer sounded, ALC would hold a commanding 46-12 advantage.
In the third period, the same pattern would repeat itself as multiple Lady Eagles would score. A 19-9 stanza would boost the advantage to forty-four (65-21) heading into the final stanza.
In the last quarter, the hosts would produce a nice 20-point quarter as they battled hard. However, 26 Lady Eagle points would see the contest end with a 91-41 score, and send the road team back to the Bluegrass with a good showing.
For ALC (11-10) two players reached double-figures in a game where eveyone earned solid minutes. Cowan led the way with her 19-point, 9-rebound effort while junior guard Kennedy Johnson bagged 10. The sophomore duo of forward Kaison Ward and guard Elivia Moore both chipped in with 9 points, while four other players scored at least 7 points.
In addition, senior guard Shelby Stewart nabbed 4 steals while freshman guard Emilee Neese had a career- high 7 assists.
On the day, the Lady Eagles finished shooting 41% (34-83) from the field, 22.2% (6-27) from long-range, and 73.9% (17-23) from the charity stripe. They added 45 rebounds, 24 assists, and 25 steals
Sierra Fonseca led the Tigers (6-16) with 21 points. Her squad shot 27.1% (13-48) from the field, 27.8% (5-18) from long-range, and 47.6% (10-21) from the foul line. They added 36 rebounds, 7 assists and 7 steals.
