Quick start propels Alice Lloyd Lady Eagles to 78-62 road win at Toccoa Falls
Toccoa Falls, GA: The Alice Lloyd College Lady Eagles basketball team ventured to the Peach state on Tuesday, January 20th, to do battle with the Toccoa Fall Screaming Eagles. The Bluegrass bombers jumped out to an early lead and maintained it enroot to a 78-62 win.
In the first period, led by forward Jamie Cowan, the visitors got out of the gates well. The Lady Eagles would jump out to a quick lead and then lock down on the defensive end. After ten minutes of action, the Kentucky crew led 22-8.
In the second quarter, the pace slowed substantially as ALC only managed to produce 12 points. Fortunately, their defense remained rock-solid as they only permitted 10 points by the Screaming Eagles. This would send the Caney Creek crew into intermission holding a 34-18 cushion.
In the third period, Toccoa's Jada Wood came up big. sparking her team to a 23-point effort. However, fueled by freshman forward Alivia Moore and sophomore guard Bailey Stewart, the blue and white hung close with 20 points of their own. TF would still trail 54-41 entering the final stanza.
In the last quarter, the Pippa Passes posse vowed to keep separation, and that is just what they did. They would produce a game-best 24-point period and outscore the Georgia crew once again. This sent enabled Alice Lloyd to preserve a nice 16-point victory.
For ALC (9-10) three players reached double-figures. Cowan led the way with her big 18 point-16 rebound double-double. She was followed closely by Morris, who drilled 5-7 field goals and 4-4 free throws for 14 points. B. Stewart contributed 11 points to the cause.
In addition, B. Stewart, Morris, and senior guard Shelby Stewart all nabbed 3 steals while senior guard Aziah Campbell led the team with 3 assists.
On the day, the Lady Eagles finished shooting 36.8% (28-76) from the field, 34.6% (9-26) from long-range, and 76.5% (13-17) from the charity stripe. They added 47 rebounds, 15 assists, and 17 steals
Wood led the Falls (5-12) with 28 points. Her squad shot 30.3% (23-76) from the field, 19.2% (5-26) from long-range, and 68.8% (11-16) from the foul line. They added 36 rebounds, 9 assists and 14 steals.
