Cold-shooting second half-proves costly as ALC Lady Eagles drop 74-60 decision at West Virginia Tech

Beckley, WV: The Alice Lloyd College Lady Eagles took to the Mountaineer state on January 15th to face a solid West Virginia Tech Golden Bear squad. The contest was a tale of two halves as ALC played extremely well in the first, but went ice-cold in the second, to drop the 14-point decision.
In the first stanza , both teams were cold, but sophomore guard Bailey Stewart sank 2-3 attempts for the Kentucky club and helped her crew manage a 13-13 tie after ten minutes of play.
In the second period, Stewart kept up her solid play as she dropped in 7 more points to help her team shoot 56%. On defense, the blue and white limited the Golden Bears to just 33% accuracy. A 26-15 period is just what the Caney faithful ordered as ALC would take a nice 39-28 cushion by intermission.
In the third period, the visitors went cold and Tech took advantage. The home team would win the period 21-11, as the Pippa Passes Eagles lead was reduced to a single point (50-49) entering the fourth.
In the last quarter, WVT came out the first 2:11 and went on an important 11-0 blitz. Suddenly, with 7:49 remaining, the Golden Bears led 60-50. From that point, Alice Lloyd would get no closer than 7 points as the squad only connected on a dismal 15.4% (2-13) from the floor.
For ALC (7-10) only two players reached double-figures. B. Stewart rammed home 19 points on impressive 70% accuracy, while sister Shelby Stewart finished with 13 points.
In addition, junior forward Jamie Cowan nabbed 8 boards, B. Stewart led with 3 steals, and senior guard Aziah Campbell led the club with 3 assists.
On the day, the Lady Eagles finished 35.7% (20-56) from the field, 33.3% (6-18) from long-range, and 87.5% (14-16) from the charity stripe. They added 31 rebounds, 12 assists, and 9 steals.
Tech (11-4) was led by Cadence Stewart and Alexis Sexton, both with 15 points. Their squad shot 37.9% (25-66) from the field, 40% (8-20) from long-range, and 80% (16-20) from the charity stripe. They added 47 rebounds, 17 assists, and 8 steals.
