Huge fourth quarter propels ALC Lady Eagles to 83-66 victory at Oakland City

Oakland City, IN: The Alice Lloyd College Lady Eagles basketball team ventured to the Hoosier state on Friday, December 5th, to do battle with the Oakland City Lady Oaks. The contest was close for three periods, but the Bluegrass ladies dominated the final stanza to win, 83-66.

In the first period, OCU came out on fire, sparked by 11 points from Nora Miller. This was enough to offset 17 combined points from ALC forward Jamie Cowan, and guards Kennedy Johnson, and Shelby Stewart. The Lady Oaks would lead 28-22 after ten minutes of action.

In the second quarter, the Alice Lloyd defense tightened up, and they would take the stanza 18-15. Oakland City would hold a slight 43-40 advantage by intermission.

In the third period, Lady Eagle sophomore guard Elivia Moore heated up, pouring in 11 points of her own. This lifted her squad to a 23-18 advantage, and enabled the eastern Kentucky crew to take a 63- 61 lead heading into the final ten minutes.

In the last quarter, the Pippa Passes posse took full command on both ends of the floor. Defensively, they would shut down the Indiana club, holding them to just 5 points on 2-12 accuracy. On offense, Moore and sophomore guard Bailey Stewart produced 15 points between them to help their team blow the contest wide open. When the final horn sounded, ALC would be rewarded with a big 17-point victory.

For ALC (2-7) five players reached double-figures in a balanced attack. Moore led the way with 20 points, drilling 7-11 field goals, including 4-5 from long range. She added 8 rebounds and 3 steals. She was closely followed by Shelby Stewart, as the sophomore swished 7-13 attempts (5-10 trifectas) for 19 points.

Sophomore guard Bailey Stewart came through with a 15 point-10 rebound double-double, and also led everyone with 4 steals, while the junior Cowan achieved a double-double of her own, finishing with 13 points and 11 boards. She also swatted 2 shots.

In addition, junior guard Johnson chipped in with 10 important points, while senior guard Aziah Campbell handed off 8 assists.

On the day, the Lady Eagles finished 43.7% (31-71) from the field, 44.4% (12-27) from long-range, and 75% (9-12) from the charity stripe. They added 48 rebounds, 16 assists, and 12 steals.

OCU (1-9) was led by Miller, with 17 points. Her club shot 45.2% (28-62) from the field, 15.4% (2-13) from long-range, and 50% (8-16) from the foul line. They added 35 rebounds, 12 assists and 13 steals.
