Stewart and Cowan combine for 49 points, but ALC Eagles drop close decision to West Virginia Tech

Pippa Passes, KY: Alice Lloyd sophomore guard Bailey Stewart and junior forward Jamie Cowan combined for 49 big points, but it was still not enough as the Lady Eagles dropped a close 84-79 decision at the hands of the West Virginia Tech Golden Bears. The matchup took place on Tuesday, November 25th.

In the first period, Stewart and WV Tech's Alexis Sexton both pumped in 9 points to spark their club. However, when Caney Creek sophomore guard Elivia Moore drilled a trifecta with .22 remaining, it gave the hosts a 18-17 advantage after ten minutes of action.

In the second period, Sexton remained red-hot as she drained four more field goals to lift the visitors to a 20-13 advantage. This enabled the Mountaineer squad to hold a 37-31 advantage at intermission.

In the third period, it was Cowan's turn to catch fire, and she did her part by delivering 11 points for the Pippa Passes posse. However, Sexton produced 10 more points for Tech, and they managed to hang on to a 64-57 cushion entering the final stanza.

In the last quarter, ALC's Stewart torched the nets for 12 points and helped her club fight back. Eventually, they would slice the deficit to just three (82-79) with .19 remaining.

Unfortunately, forced to foul, the Eagles sent Sexton to the line. The guard coolly drained both tosses to set the final margin and chalk up the closely-contested victory in the Bears column.

For ALC (1-7) three players reached double-figures. Stewart rammed home 27 points on impressive 12-18 accuracy. Cowan sank 7-13 attempts and finished with 22 points. She completed a double-double with 10 rebounds.

In addition, Moore finished the game with 11 points, 6 boards, and 2 steals, while senior guard Aziah Campbell led the club with 7 assists.

On the day, the Lady Eagles finished 46% (29-63) from the field, 22% (4-18) from long-range, and 81% (17-21) from the charity stripe. They added 34 rebounds, 16 assists, and 8 steals.

WVT (6-1) was led by Sexton, who sank 12-15 attempts for 32 points. Her club shot 54.4% (31-57) from the field, 35.7% (5-14) from long-range, and 68% (17-25) from the foul line. They added 34 rebounds, 17 assists and 8 steals.
