ALC Women’s Basketball falls at Union Commonwealth University
Barboursville, KY: The Alice Lloyd College Lady Eagles basketball squad returned to the hardwood on Saturday afternoon to face the homestanding Union Commonwealth University Lady Bulldogs. The hosts got off to a good start and kept the pressure on as they took the 91-58 victory.
In the first period, UC would grab an early lead, and extend it. After ten minutes, they led 21-13.
In the second period, the scoring slowed down. ALC was only able to produce 9 points compared to Unions 14. This set the table at 35-22 by intermission.
In the third period, Alice Lloyd fought to stay close and produced a 22-point quarter. However, the Lady Bulldogs pumped in 28 points of their own, and extended the advantage. They would head into the final quarter holding a solid 63-44 lead.
In the last ten minutes, ALC went cold and the hosts doubled up the score. A big 28-14 advantage handed the vicory to the Bulldogs, 91-58.
For ALC (1-5), junior forward Jamie Cowan and junior guard Shelby Stewart were the only players to reach double figures. Cowan led the club with 14 points while Stewart chipped in with 10.
In addition, Cowan led the way with 9 rebounds, sophomore guard Bailey Stewart had 4 assists, and senior guard Aziah Campbell and sophomore guard Elivia Moore both nabbed 2 steals.
On the day, the Lady Eagles shot 34.5% (20-58) from the field, 20% (4-20) from long-range, and 70% (14-20) from the charity stripe. They added 36 rebounds, 10 assists, and 8 steals.
Union (1-5) was led by Rachel Smith with 23 points. Her club shot 43.8% (35-80) from the field, 30% (9-30) from long-range, and 66.7% (12-18) from the foul line. They also added 53 rebounds, 18 assists and 11 steals.
