Alice Lloyd Lady Eagles use second half comeback to defeat Penscola Christian, 86-85
Harrodsburg, KY: On Tuesday, November 16th, the Alice Lloyd College Lady Eagles returned to Harrodsburg for Game 2 of the Visit Harrodsburg Classic. Pensacola Christian would provide stiff competition in this contest, and they pulled out to a 12-point lead by intermission. However, the Lady Eagles would make a huge comeback in the second half to pull out the 86-85 victory.
In the opening period, the Florida squad came out firing. They quickly scored 24 big points and led by 9 (24-15) after ten minutes of action.
In the second quarter, the Bluegrass ladies turned to senior guard Katie Jo Moore to stay in contention while PCU relied on the play of Sky Boyd. Boyd would help her club pull out to a 45-33 lead by intermission.
In the third period, the Eagles torched the nets as freshman guard Bailey Stewart caught fire. Her play sparked the Pippa Passes posse, which swished 13-16 shots. This gave them a huge 35-20 edge in the stanza and lifted her mates to a 68-65 lead heading into the final quarter of play.
In the final period, the Bluegrass ladies battled hard to maintain their advantage as sophomore Kennedy Harvel and freshman guard Ashtyn Barrett both drained big shots on the perimeter while sophomore forward Jamie Cowan controlled the paint. Pensacola would get a late attempt, but the missed shot would hand the Caney Creek ladies the nice victory.
For the victors (3-6), Stewart would drill 10-17 attempts, including 4-5 bombs, for her game-high 26 points. She also pulled down 9 rebounds to finish her impressive performance. Moore was big, dropping 7-10 shots for 14 points and handing off 6 assists. Harvel and Barrett both added 10 points, while Barrett also had 6 assists. In addition, Cowan came through with 9 points, 8 rebounds, 4 blocks and 3 steals.
The Caney Club finished shooting 44.8% (36-72) from the field and 33.3% (9-27) from long range. They connected on 66.7% (5-8) from the foul line while adding 37 rebounds, 22 assists, 7 blocks and 12 steals.
Boyd paced PCU (7-2) with 22 points. Her squad finished shooting 44.8% (30-67) from the field, 36.4% (8-22) from behind the arc, and 73.9% (17-23) from the charity stripe. They also added 41 rebounds, 25 assists, 3 blocks and 9 steals.
