Alice Lloyd Lady Eagles Win Defensive Battle at Point Park University

Pittsburgh, PA:   The Alice Lloyd College Lady Eagles used a solid defensive effort to take down the homestanding Point Park University Lady Pioneers, 56-51. The River States matchup took place Saturday, February 4th, in the Steel City.

In the opening period, PPU raced out to a 15-8 lead and forced an Eagle timeout with 4:48 showing. From that point, the Bluegrass ladies would close with a 6-2 run, but still trail 17-14 after ten minutes of play. 

In the second quarter, ALC would tighten the screws on defense and hold the hosts to just five points in the stanza. A fifteen-point effort by the Caney Creek Crew would enable them to turn things around, and take a 29-22 advantage at intermission.

In the third period, the pace would slow for the Lady Eagles as they could only muster ten points in ten minutes. Still, the Pippa Passes club would cling to a slight 39-37 lead entering the last stanza.

In the final quarter, the Kentucky squad would turn to senior Bailee Brainard to steady the ship. She would produce eight consecutive points, and help her squad hang on. Although the Pioneers would cut the deficit to just two late (53-51), the Lady Eagles would ice the game with three clutch free-throws, including the final two from senior guard Hannah Kash, to pull out the nice road victory.

For the Pippa Passes squad (16-6; 9-5 RSC), Brainard paved the way with 16 points, and 7 rebounds. Sophomore guard Katie Jo Moore would toss in 12 points, and lead the club with 9 rebounds. Kash was right behind with 11 points, 4 assists, and 2 steals.

The victors won shooting 41% (25-61) from the field and 16.7% (1-6) from long range. They connected on 50% (5-10) from the foul line, and added 39 rebounds, 10 assists, and 7 steals.

Point Park (8-14; 5-9 RSC) was led by Alexis Giles with 19 points. Her squad finished shooting just 29.5% (18-61) from the field and 19.4% (6-31) from long range. They connected on 60% (9-15) from the foul line. They also added 44 rebounds, 8assists, and 5 steals.

The Lady Eagles get a much-deserved break until next Saturday, February 11th, when they return to the Perry Campus Center for an important conference showdown against the Ohio Christian University Lady Trailblazers. Tipoff is set for 1:00pm. This game will mark "Senior Day" for the team.
