Alice Lloyd Lady Eagles Dominate Fourth Quarter, Defeat Carlow University

Pittsburg, PA:   The Alice Lloyd College Lady Eagles used a 22-4 fourth quarter to blow open a tight game and defeat the Carlow University Lady Celtics, 78-61. The matchup took place Thursday, February 2nd, in the Steel City.

In the opening period, senior center Bailee Brainard and junior guard Hannah Malcomson both scored 8 points to give their squad a 22-16 advantage after ten minutes of play.

In the second quarter, CU would utilize the inside play of center Megan Ost, and pour in 26 team points. Her production would enable the Pennsylvania club to squeak ahead at intermission, 42-40.

In the third period, the pace would slow slightly. Offensively, theLady Eagles would get a nice boost off the bench from sophomore guard Madison Ward, and take the period 17-15. This would allow the Pippa Passes ladies to knot the score (57-57) entering the last ten minutes.

In the final quarter, the ALC defense would come through in a big way as they limited the Celtics to just four total points while pumping in 22 of their own. This huge change of momentum gave the Caney Creek girls the boost they needed to pull away for the nice road victory.

For the Pippa Passes squad (15-6; 8-5 RSC), Kash would lead the way with a 23 point, 10 rebound double-double. She also led everyone with 6 assists. Brainard was right behind with 20 points and 9 rebounds. Ward was perfect from the field as she chipped in with 12 points.

The victors won shooting 38.6% (28-70) from the field and 36.8% (7-19) from long range. They connected on 78.3% (18-23) from the foul line, and added 44 rebounds, 13 assists, and 13steals.

Carlow (5-17; 1-12 RSC) was led by Ost with 17 points and 20 rebounds. Her squad finished shooting 34.3% (23-67) from the field and 30.8% (4-13) from long range. They connected on 73.3% (11-15) from the foul line. They also added 48 rebounds, 13 assists, and 6 steals.
