Alice Lloyd Lady Eagles Ride Big Second Half to Defeat Shawnee State University, 69-49
Pippa Passes, KY: The Alice Lloyd College Lady Eagles trailed by five at the half before dominating the final twenty minutes to earn a big 69-49 victory over the Shawnee State Bears on November 29th.
In the opening period, points were hard to come by for the guests, while ALC doubled up the score with six players denting the scoreboard. The hosts led 16-8 after ten minutes of action.
In the second quarter, things changed dramatically as the visitors produced 21 big points while limiting the Lady Eagles to just 8. Due to this, the Bears would hold a 29-24 lead at intermission.
In the third period, both defenses would tighten up once more, but the Pippa Passes ladies turned to senior guard Hannah Kash to gain some offense. Her 5 points led the Pippa Passes ladies to a 17-9 advantage and helped the home squad regain the lead, 41-38, at periods end. She was just heating up.
In the final stanza, the Caney Creek crew kept up their impressive defense. On the offensive end, Kash and sophomore forward Makayla May combined for 23 huge points, with Kash netting 14, to propel their squad and make the impressive comeback complete.
For Alice Lloyd (7-1), Kash led everyone with 25 points while drilling 7 field goals and 10-13 free throws. She also led with 3 steals and grabbed 8 rebounds. May finished with 13 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 assists, while freshman forward Kaylee Banks gave a big boost off the bench with 10 points and 9 rebounds. In addition, senior center Bailee Brainard added 5 rebounds, led with 3 assists, and tied for the lead in steals with 3 of her own.
The victors won by shooting 39.6% (21-53) from the field and 23.5% (4-17) from long range. They connected on 73.4% (25-34) from the foul line. They also added 48 rebounds, 10 assists, and 9 steals.
SSU (3-6) was paced by Karimah Nix with 16 points. Her squad finished shooting just 25.9% (14-54) from the field and 34.5% (10-29) from deep. They connected on 73.9% (17-23) from the foul line. They also added 34 rebounds, 8 assists, and 11 steals.
The Lady Eagles return this Saturday when they travel to the Buckeye State to battle the Ohio Christian Lady Trailblazers in important RSC play. Tipoff is set for 1:00 pm.
