The Bluegrass bunch fought hard, but dropped a tough 8-0 decision.
The loss moves the Lady Eagles record to 35-14 and eliminates them from the tournament. Westcliff moves to 19-22 on the year and advances to play another day.
April 30th
Game 2 (Five Innings)
Alice Lloyd-0: Westcliff-8
The Lady Eagles had a tough time at the plate and fell to the club from the west coast.
The Warriors struck in their first at-bat, knocking a double and single, but received a big boost as ALC committed a pair of walks and a crucial error. This enabled 4 runners to race home and hand Westcliff a 4-0 advantage.
In the meantime, the score would hold through the first four innings as Alice Lloyd only had a pair of singles over that time, having a tough time getting their offense going.
Eventually, in the bottom half of the fourth, WU would put the contest out of reach. They would load the bases with a trio of walks, then use a double and single to put up another 4-spot. Heading into the final inning, Westcliff held a solid 8-0 cushion.
Down to their final opportunity, the Pippa Passes bats were stymied as they went down in order to end their run in this tournament.
At the plate, Arin Rife (P/DP) and Whitney Lippert (C) each laced a single. Unfortunately, these would be the only hits the usually potent Eagle-offense would manage on this day.
On the mound, Rife suffered the dissapointing loss. In 3.1 innings, she gave up 3 hits, but 7 runs (5 earned runs) with 5 walks and 2 strikeouts. Kinna Justice came in the final 0.2 innings and allowed 3 hits and 1 run.
The California club led in hits, 6-1, and saw the Kentucky club commit the lone error of the day.
