ALC Softball takes pair over Ohio Christian University

Pippa Passes, KY: The Alice Lloyd College Lady Eagles (7-5) were home on Wednesday, February 18th for a doubleheader against the Ohio Christian University Lady Trailblazers (0-6). The home fans would witness their club capture both contests with impressive pitching performances.

Game 1

Alice Lloyd-10: Ohio Christian-2

ALC did their damage in two innings and took the opener in five.

The Ohio squad took an early 1-0 lead when they slapped a double in the first. However, their advantage would not last long.

In the bottom of the inning, the Caney Creek clubbers attacked right out of the gate. They placed a runner on base with a walk and then saw Arin Rife (1B) tee off on a pitch and send it over the fence for two runs (2-0). Later, singles from Briley AIdala (C) and Mackinzie Newport (LF) delivered another pair of runners. Quickly, the score now read 4-1.

The status-quo remained until the fourth. In that inning, the Pass layerd a Rife double, around two singles, and two steals at homeplate to rake in a huge six-run windfall. This made the score 10-1.

Altough the Trailblazers would add a final run in the fifth, the Pippa Passes posse slammed the door after that to clinch the solid victory.

Rife led the way on offense as she went 2-3 with a home run and double. She also raked in 4RBI's.

On the mound, Kinna Justice took the "W". She allowed only 6 hits and 1 earned run, struck out 3, and walked just 2.

OCU actually won the hitting war, 6-5, but hurt themselves by walking 7 Lady Eagles. Neither squad committed an error.

GAME 2

Alice Lloyd-2: Ohio Christian-0

ALC pitching was the key factor as they earned the sweep in shutout fashion.

The Caney Creek crew had several hits during the first four innings, but were unable to produce any runs. In the meantime, Arin Rife controled the OCU bats during the same span, as the contest remained scoreless until the bottom of inning four.

In that inning, the Bluegrass bunch saw a Aidala reach base, then score on a single from Rachel Rife (LF). This broke the ice on the scoreboard (1-0).

In the next inning, Orfield reached base, then scored on a line drive single by Chloe Taylor (2B). This insurance run made the score 2-0.

That would be enough as Arin Rife took over from there with her pitching. and clinched the sweep.

At the plate, Arin Rife laced a triple and seven of her teammates all singled. Rachel Rife and Taylor provided the RBI's.

On the mound, Arin Rife took the win as she tossed a two-hit shutout, while striking out 8, and walking 7.

The Lady Eagles won the hitting war, 8-2 and no errors were committed.
