Alice Lloyd Softball sweeps West Virginia Tech
Pippa Passes, KY: The Alice Lloyd College Lady Eagles returned home on February 26th to face the West Virgina Tech Golden Bears in a softball double-dip. The Caney Creek crew played well and took both contests.
February 25th
Game 1
Alice Lloyd-8; WVT-4
The home club exploded out the gate and took the opening game.
Tech actually jumped ahead quickly with a homer in the first (1-0). However, ALC scored 3 when they took to the plate, with Arin Rife (RF) smashing a double to produce a pair of them (3-1).
In the Eagle second, her sister Rachel Rife (LF) doubled in a pair of her own (5-1) and twin errors delivered 2 more. Now, the Lady Eagles led 7-1.
In the very next inning, Mckenzie Orfield (SS) delivered a run with a single down the line, and the 8-1 advantage was looking pretty solid.
Bluefield did chip away at the deficit, producing a run in the fifth and 2 more in the sixth (8-4), but that was as close as they would get as the Caney crew closed out the final inning to lock up the win.
At the plate, ALC saw the Rife sisters and Ellie Keene (C) each rap 2 hits while A. Rife produced 4 big RBI's.
Maleigh McDaniel earned the pitching victory, allowing 4 runs on 9 hits with 2 stikeouts. A. Rife faced the final four batters, allowing 0 hits and KO'ing 3 of them.
The victors produced the most hits, 12-9, and 4 errors proved costly to Tech. ALC committed only 1
GAME 2

Tech actually jumped ahead quickly once again with a double in the first (1-0), only to see ALC scored 2 on a Keene single and wild pitch (2-1)
In the Eagle second, a big error by the Golden Bears enabled two Caney Creek ladies to race home. Now, the hosts led 4-1.
WV Tech tried to rally with a score in the fourth (4-2) only to immediately watch Orfield's double gain it back tor Alice Lloyd (5-2). This was followed one inning later by a run-scoring double from Kirsten Vice (DP) and the Pippa Passes posse now led 6-2.
A Tech double in the sixth made the score 6-3, but the Lady Eagles would not be denied as they closed out the festivities from there.
At the plate, Keene (CF), Chloe Taylor (2B) and Lauren Morris (C) each knocked a pair of hits while Orfield produced 3 crucial RBI's.
Vice earned the pitching victory, allowing 3 runs on 7 hits with 2 stikeouts. For the second straight game, A. Rife faced the final four batters, allowing 0 hits and striking out 3 of them.
The blue and white won the hitting war, 10-7 and played error-free ball.
