The Alice Lloyd College Lady Eagles Softball Team concluded their season by traveling to Oakland City, Indiana, to participate in the 2024 NCCAA Mideast Regional Tournament at Raceland, Kentucky. The Eagles played on May 7th in the double-elimination competition. The Eagles to Kentucky Christian University and Oakland City University.
Game 1
The Lady Eagles began the tournament with a 12-3 loss to Kentucky Christian University in a 5-inning contest. KCU held a 12-0 lead at the top of the 5th inning. The Lady Eagles rallied with 3 runs in the bottom of the 5th but came up short.
Maleigh McDaniel and Kinna Justice pitched for the Lady Eagles. McDaniel threw 74 pitches for 46 strikeouts, 10 hits, and 1 homer, scoring 8 runs out of the 10 hits. Justice threw 29 pitches for 22 strikeouts and 7 hits, scoring 4 runs out of the 7 hits.
Rachael Rife led the Lady Eagles' hitters. In three at-bats, she had one hit, a double, and an RBI. Audrey Mowell and Ellie Keene also had an RBI each.
Game 2
The Lady Eagles fought hard in their second game of the tournament, a 7-inning match against Oakland City University. Oakland City held a 3-1 lead after the bottom of the 4th inning, but the Lady Eagles came back within 1 by the bottom of the 6th. It came down to the final inning, where OKC extended their lead. Even though the Lady Eagles trailed the entire game, they fought until the end and kept the score close, falling 5-3.
Kirsten Vice and Maleigh McDaniel pitched for the Lady Eagles. Vice threw 96 pitches for 65 strikeouts, 11 hits, and 1 homer. 4 runs scored of the 11 hits. McDaniel threw 16 pitches for 11 strikeouts and 2 hits. 1 of the 2 hits became a scoring run.
Aspyn Branham, McKenzie Orfield, and Carlee Muncy led the Lady Eagles in hitting. Branham managed 2 hits and a run in 3 at-bats, one of which was a triple. In 4 at-bats, Orfield had 1 hit and an RBI. Carlee Muncy had 2 RBIs in 1 at bat on a sacrifice fly. Lady Eagles hitters accounted for 3 runs on 6 hits in 25 at-bats in the contest.
