GAME ONE

PPU-11; Alice Lloyd-4

The Pennsylvania club unleashed a huge sixth inning to come from behind for the opening win.

Things could not have started better for the Bluegrass girls. After Ellie Keene (C) and Alexis Morris (2B) opened the contest with singles, Lyndsey Adkins (1B) came to bat and promptly lined a rope over the center field fence to put the Caney Creek crew ahead 3-0.

Things remained unchanged until the fourth inning, when PPU used a pair of singles to earn a couple of runs, and cut the score to 3-2. One inning later, a third Pioneer single tied the score at 3-3.

In the bottom of the fifth, after Morris singled and later advanced to third, a long sacrifice off the bat of Chloe Taylor (SS) broke the tie (4-3). Unfortunately, things were getting ready to take a turn for the worse for the Pippa Passes posse.

In the top of the sixth, Point Park utilized two doubles, a single, and a few crucial errors, to run wild on the basepaths. When the PPU inning finally came to an end, eight gigantic runs raced home. The Pioneers now led 11-4.

With momentum squarely on their side, the Pennsylvania squad then put the home team down for the count to preserve their lead and seal the day.

At the plate, Morris and Maleigh Mcdaniel both swatted 3 hits, while the Adkins home run was the lone extra-base hit for the game.

On the mound, Mcdaniel started and suffered an unfair fate. She led until the sixth inning before leaving the game When she was replaced, her squad led 4-3. She went 6.2 innings, allowing 8 hits and 3 runs, with 6 strikeouts, before being relieved by Kursten Napier, who took the loss, and Carly Creech. The two combined to give up 6 hits and 8 runs.
