Alice Lloyd College Lady Eagles Softball Travels to Indiana to Face Oakland City University

Oakland City, IN: The Alice Lloyd College Lady Eagles softball team traveled to the Hoosier State on April 21st to face the Oakland City Lady Oaks in River States Conference action. The hosts pulled out a close first game before taking the second outing in easy fashion. With the losses, ALC saw their record fall to 10-28 (5-21 RSC), while the Indiana club moved to 17-17 (10-12 RSC).

 

April 21st

GAME 1

Alice Lloyd-5; OCU-9

 

The Lady Eagles struck first and led until the midpoint before dropping the opener.

The scoring started immediately as the Bluegrass ladies saw Mckenzie Orfield (3B) and Lyndsey Adkins (1B) each smack hits to reach base. Maleigh Mcdaniel (DP) then lined a single to score one (1-0). The next batter, Chloe Taylor (2B) then repeated the feat to deliver another score (2-0).

In the bottom of the inning, OCU doubled to slice the deficit in half (2-1), but the Lady Eagles earned that back in the third. In that inning, Orfield reached base once more. Later, after attempting a steal of third base, she forced the catcher into a bad throw, which enabled her to jog home to make the score 3-1.

In the Lady Oaks half of the third, a single by the hosts produced another run (3-2), but ALC's Baylee Cox (RF) answered immediately in the very next inning by smacking a single to drive a teammate in, and set the score 4-2. Unfortunately, the momentum was getting ready to shift.

In the bottom of inning four, a double, single, and crucial error led to a quartet of Hoosier ladies crossing home (6-4).

After no change for two innings, OCU added insurance runs in the sixth utilizing a single and a pair of doubles to deliver three more scores, and vault ahead, 9-4.

ALC would gain a final run in their last at bat when Orfield's single brought in a teammate. (9-5). Unfortunately, the home squad would then close out the contest to clinch the victory.

Offensively, Orfield would play well, going 3-4 from the plate, while Adkins double was the lone extra-base hit. Orfield, Mcdaniel, Taylor, and Cox all had 1 RBI.

 

Haley Howell suffered the loss on the mound, as she allowed 6 hits with 3 earned runs in 3.1 innings. Kursten Napier gave up 2 hits and 1 run in 2 innings of work, while Orfield gave up 4 hits and 3 runs in the final 0.2 innings.

The Caney crew were outhit 12-10 and committed 1 error.

   

GAME 2

Alice Lloyd- 1, OCU-15

 The home club unleashed runs in every inning to take the contest going away in five innings.

In the opener, a single and wild pitch delivered a couple of scores (2-0). However, the Lady Oaks second would prove the backbreaker.

In that inning, a triple, double, three singles, and error unleashed seven big scores. Suddenly, the hometown squad led 9-0.

In the third, a three-spot was produced by Oakland City, sparked by a double (12-0). They followed that up one inning later with three more scores, courtesy of another double (15-0).

In the fifth, ALC would finally get on the board when a Cox liner found a gap to bring in one (15-1). Unfortunately, it would be too little-too-late as the contest ended shortly.

The Pippa Passes squad was limited to just 3 singles, while Cox had the lone RBI.

Cox dropped the loss on the mound, lasting 1.2 innings while allowing 6 hits, with 7 runs (3 earned). Creech, Howell, Orfield, and Napier all relieved, giving up a combined 9 hits and 8 runs.

Alice Lloyd was outhit 15-3, and committed 4 crucial errors.
