April 5th
GAME 1
Alice Lloyd-0; OCU-8
The Lady Trailblazers scored quickly and used that to their advantage to pull away for the opening win.
The scoring started in the first. After two OCU batters reached base, a single drove them both in (2-0). In the second, a single and error permitted to more runs to reach home (4-0). Later in the inning, with two runners on base, a shot over the left field wall delivered three more scores (7-0). In the bottom of the fourth, an error from ALC enabled a runner to race home, and the score now stood 8-0. The Ohio squad then closed out the game in quick fashion to earn the win.
Rachel Rife (LF) had 2 hits while Aspyn Branham (DP) registered a double. Unfortunately, those were the only hits the Kentucky squad could muster. Haley Howell suffered the loss on the mound, as she allowed 7 hits and 5 earned runs in 4 innings. She struck out 1 batter and walked 2.
The Caney crew was outhit 7-3 and committed 3 critical errors.
GAME 2
Alice Lloyd- 0, OCU-7
ALC had a solid pitching effort, but had trouble at the plate for the second consecutive game as they dropped the series.
The Lady Trailblazers opened the matchup by placing a runner on third. A sacrifice bunt then brought the opening run in to score (1-0). Pitching then dominated the contest as neither squad could produce a run over the next three innings. In the fifth, OCU finally broke through. In that inning, a two-run shot brought in a couple of runs (3-0). The hosts then used a single to add an additional score (4-0). One inning later, a wild pitch from the Pippa Passes squad, combined with a timely OCU double, enabled three more runners to cross home (7-0). That effectively ended the contest.
The Bluegrass girls would record five singles on the day, but for the second straight game, they could not get the crucial hit when they needed it to start a rally.
On the mound, Maleigh Mcdaniel suffered the disappointing loss despite throwing a solid game. She pitched 5.2 innings, allowing just 4 hits, with 3 earned runs and 2 K's. Kursten Napier came on in relief, allowing 2 hits and 3 earned runs.
Alice Lloyd was just outhit by one, 7-6, but committed 2 key errors.
