Lady Eagles Softball Takes Impressive Sweep Over Berea College
Berea, KY: The Alice Lloyd College Lady Eagles softball team journeyed to Berea (KY) on Thursday, February 23rd, to face the NCAA DIII Berea Lady Mountaineers. The visitors dominated from start to finish and earned two impressive victories.
GAME 1
BC-0; Alice Lloyd-13
ALC jumped out quickly and pulled away to win in five innings.
For ALC, they would plate 2 runs in the second, assisted by a costly Mountaineer error. One inning later, they would then add 4 more scores, with Ellie Keene's (C) double inflicting the greatest damage (6-0).
In the fourth, a fielder's choice and wild pitch enable two more Eagles to fly across the plate (8-0). They then iced the contest in the fifth when another bad pitch, a fielder's choice, and Keene's second double of the game brought around five more scores (13-0). Caney Creek pitching then slammed the door shut on any potential comeback.
Seven different Lady Eagles had hits, with Keene, Maleigh McDaniel (P), and Audrey Mowell (DH) each rapping two hits. The club had 5 total doubles as McDaniel, Alexis Morris (2B), and Mckenzie Orfield (3B) each added one to the cause. Keene also recorded 4 RBIs to go with her 2 doubles.
McDaniel was solid on the mound as she threw four innings of a one-hit ball. She walked 0 and whiffed 6 batters. Haley Howell relieved the last inning, allowing 1 hit and striking out 2.
The Eagles won the hitting battle 10-2. They helped themselves greatly by playing error-free ball while BC committed 6 miscues.
GAME 2
BC- 3; Alice Lloyd- 25
The Lady Eagles put their power on full display as they completely overwhelmed the Central Kentucky club in five innings to earn the sweep.
ALC jumped out quickly from the opening pitch as they delivered a double from Lyndsey Adkins (1B), and 2 singles. They received several gift runs as the hosts committed 3 errors and hit 3 Eagle batters. However, the big blow came when Aspyn Branham (3B) drove a fastball over the left field wall to plate more runs. (12-0). 16 batters would come up to the plate in the inning.
BC opened their first-at-bat by using a double and 2 singles to score three (12-3). Unfortunately, they would get little else the rest of the way.
In the second, 2 doubles, courtesy of Adkins and Baylee Cox, along with 2 more singles, drove home 5 more (17-3).
In the third, 2 more runs plated, with Carlee Muncy (RF) nailing a double (19-3).
In the fourth, Branham and Rachel Rife (LF) both joined the doubles club and 2 more teammates scored (21-3). One inning later 2 singles and a Chloe Taylor double produced three more scores (25-3) as the lead reached its zenith.
At the plate, twelve different players would stroke hits, with Bramham (3 hits) and Adkins, Mcdaniel, and Taylor (2 hits each) leading the squad.
Adkins and Taylor provided 4 RBIs apiece, while Cox chipped in with 3 more.
In the meantime, after giving up 3 scores in the opening inning, Lady Eagle pitching completely slammed the door shut from the mound with their second eye-opening performance. Cox went two innings to grab the win, allowing 4 hits, 3 runs, and striking out 3.
Kursten Napier, Cammy Creech, and Orfield all threw one inning. The threesome combined to give up just 1 hit with 2 K's
ALC took the hitting battle, 16-5, and the Mountaineers committed 7 big errors. ALC committed 0 miscues once again.
