ALC Soccer drops second game in NCCAA DII National Tournament to Great Lakes Christian (MI), 5-2

Kissimmee, FL: On November 18th, the Alice Lloyd College Eagles returned to the Sunshine State of Florida for their second game in Pool B play in the 2025 Division II Men's Soccer National Championship. In this contest, the #2 seeded Kentucky boys would face #6 Grace Christian (MI). Unfortunately, the match would favor the Michigan squad as they took control quickly and pulled out for the 5-2 victory.

The scoring started just eight minutes in when GLC's Caden Petroelje took an errant pass and drove in a shot from near midfield to give his squad a 1-0 lead. Then,at 18:03, CJ Kazmerski struck again for the northern club to lift them to a 2-0 cushion.

Happily, just 18 seconds later, ALC dinted the scoreboard when Luis Sarabia took a pass delivered by Maddux Camden and Alex DeWolf to slice the deficit in half, 2-1. Unfortunately, Grace would answer at 39:01 when Gavin McTavish managed to put the ball in the net. This gave Great Lakes a 3-1 advantage at intermission.

In the second half, Alice Lloyd looked to get on the scoreboard, but saw GLC continue their inspired play. At 48:36,  Isaac VanderMolen delivered another score, and the Michigan club now held a stunning 4-1 lead.

In desperate need of a score, ALC  got one back when Sarabia fed Dylan Moore, and he delivered the goods to make the score 4-2. However, Great Lakes hunkered down on defense and gave up no more points. Eventually, at  84:09, GL's Austin Engel would deliver the clincher, producing a point to make the scoreboard read 5-2. This would hold until the final horn sounded.

On the day, GLC (11-7-3) led in shots (19-11), shots-on-goal (6-4), and fouls (24-7). The squads tied, with 5 corner kicks apiece.

Offensively, Sarabia and Moore produced the goals while Sarabia, Camden, and DeWolf were credited with assists.  Defensively, Kalin Schneider recorded 1 saves and allowed 5 goals for the Caney club while  Great Lakes Logan Werschem  allowed 2 scores and made 2 saves.

The Eagles (12-3-4)  will next face #3 Pensecola Christian College on Thursday at 6:00pm to conclude pool play on Thursday at 6:00pm. The overall winner of this pool will meet the winner of Pool A on Saturday at 6:00pm for the national championship.
