Alice Lloyd Eagles Soccer travels to Southwest Virginia

 

Cedar Bluff, VA: On October 8th, the Alice Lloyd College Eagles soccer squad traveled to Cedar Bluff, Virginia for a match against the Southwest Virginia Flying Eagles (4-6-2) . The squads had just played on Sunday, but due to a weather cancellation, the rematch fell just two days later. When the final horn sounded, the hosts had pulled out a 5-3 victory.

 The Pippa Passes squad struck first when Jensen Harbaugh went solo nine minutes in for the first point of the game (1-0). However, ALC would be shut out the remainder of the half, and the Flying Eagles responded with 3 big scores of their own. This would enable the Virginia club to enter the dressing room at intermission holding a 3-1 advantage,

 In the second half, the hosts would increse thir lead with a successful kick at 55:00, to lead 4-1. The Kentucky boys answered at 69:00 when Sawyer Crum took a Bryan Amador pass and pounded it home to slice the deficit to 4-2.

At 82:00, a costly penelty by the Eagles gave Southwest a free kick, and they used it their advantage, pulling ahead 5-2.  Now running out of time, the Bluegrass boys saw Payton Tharp take an assist from Isaiah Magggard and beat the goalie. Unfortunately, the sore would remain 5-3 until the final horn.

 On the day, the victors fired 13 shots, compared to ALC's 9. Harbaugh, Crum and Tharp each provided a goal while Amador and Maggard delivered the assists.

Pippa Passes goalie Joseph Westphal allowed 5 goals and recorded 8 saves.

 ALC (4-5-1) returns to action on Tuesday, October 11th, when they travel to Toccoa Falls, Georgia for a 4:00pm showdown.
