Cold shooting dooms ALC Eagles Basketball in Louisville
Louisville, KY: The Alice Lloyd Eagles traveled to the big city of Louisviile to battle the Boyce College Bulldogs on Tuesday, November 4th. The Eagles started well before turning cold from the field, and dropping a 85-75 decision.
In the first half, the contest was close. Then. leading 14-13 at the 13:29 mark, the Caney Creek crew would roll off a quick 10-2 burst to lead 24-15 lead with 10:15 showing on the clock. However, after the blue and white misfired on four opportunities to increase their advantage, the momentum would soon change .
From that point, Alice Lloyd suddenly couldn't buy a basket, and Boyce took advatage. Over the next seven minutes, the Bulldogs would go 17-2 run to lead 32-26 with 3:33 remaining. Although the Eagles would finally snap out of their doldrums, BC would still lead 40-38 at intermission.
In the second half, freshman forward Evin Eversole would open the scoring with a trifecta to put ALC on top, 41-40. Unfortunately, the guests would never regain the advantage as they went cold once more. Boyce also took advantage of numerous free throws to keep their distance. Even though the Pippa Pases posse would continue to battle, they would never string together a final run to help them regain the lead. This allowed Boyce to close out the festivities.
For ALC (0-2) they were led by forward Naz Welch , who drained 7-8 field goals to finish with 18 points. He added 5 rebounds. He was followed by guards Koji Anderson and Desmier Hatchett, who contributed 11 and 10 points respectively. Hatchett led the squad with 8 rebounds
In addition, senior guard Wilgus Tolson led the team with 5 assists, and tied Anderson in steals, each with 2. Junior center Micah Wills swatted 3 shots.
The Eagles shot a disappointing 39.7% (27-68) from the field, 28.1% (9-32) from long range, and 66.7% (12-18) from the charity line. They hurt themselves immensely by grabbing only 31 rebounds ,while adding 17 assists, 7 steals, and 5 blocks.
Boyce (1-0) was led by Andrew Thomas with 24 points. His team shot 40% (26-65) from the field and 28.6% (6-21) from long range. They won the game by sinking 27-40 free throws for 67.5% and by yanking down 53 rebounds. They also recorded 13 assists and 9 steals.
