Alice Lloyd Eagles use balanced attack to defeat Carolina University

Winston Salem, NC: On December 14th, the Alice Lloyd Eagles journeyed to the Tar Heel state to battle the Carolina University Bruins. The Eagles would ride a balanced attack and control the game enroute to a 83-71 victory.

In the opening stanza, the Eagles trailed early as the Bruins opened with a triple. From there , Pippa Passes senior forward Ben Soumahoro drained several midrange jumpers to help the Eagles gain the advantage.

CU hung within striking distance but the Bluegrass boys brought out their Kentucky long-rifle in senior guard Jacob CurryCurry entered the fray and promptly swished 5 long bombs to spark the Bluegrass crew. At intermission, ALC would lead, 38-30.

In the second half, the visiting fans were rewarded with a beautiful stretch of play as senior guard Jared Strickland and junior guard Koji Anderson fueled a nice burst. The Eagles unleashed a 23-10 run over the first 5:30 to sprint ahead, 61-41.

The mountain crew received more steady play off the bench in the form of senior forward Devaunte Robinson and sophomore guard Landon Napier and their efforts enabled the visitors to maintain an advantage as they cruised across the finish line to seal the nice road victory.

 For Alice Lloyd (7-3), they were led on the night by Strickland and Curry, who both finished with 19 points on a combined 12-18 field goals, including 9-13 from long range. They were joined in double-digits by Soumahoro, who hit 6-12 for 13 points. He also nabbed 3 steals.

In addition, Anderson added 10 points, while Robinson registered his first career double-double with 10 points and 11 huge rebounds. Napier finished second with 7 boards, while senior guard Brady Nelson led the way with 4 assists.

 On the day, the Caney Creek crew finished at 41.7% (25-60) from the field, including 45.8% (11-24) from beyond the arc. They also hit a blazing 88% (22-25) from the charity stripe, grabbed 46 rebounds, handed out 11 assists and swiped 9 steals. 

CU (2-10) was led by Cameron Buchanan with 22 points. His squad shot 46.2% (30-65) from the field, 32% (8-25) from beyond the arc and 37.5% (3-8) from the foul line. Additionally, they registered  27 rebounds, handed off 16 assists, and stole 11 balls.
