ALC Eagles drop conference shootout at Indiana East,103-96

Richmond,IN: On December 7th, the Alice Lloyd Eagles basketball squad journeyed to Hoosier country to battle the homestanding Indiana East Red Wolves in River States Conference play. The game was high-octane, but the Red Wolves came back in the second half to take the 103-96 victory.

In the opening stanza, the Eagles came out of the gate firing from long distance. When senior guard Jacob Curry swished a long bomb at 10:44, the Kentucky boys led, 36-23.

Sparked by 17 first-half points from Antuane Allen, East began to cut into the lead. Fortunately, ALC senior forward Ben Soumahoro and sophomore forward Jackson Tackett sank several big buckets, and the Eagles would carry a 52-48 advantage into the dressing room at intermission.

 In the second half, the Red Wolves turned to Trent Johnson, and the forward delivered 23 big points in the final twenty minutes. The Pippa Passes posse countered with Soumahoro, Curry, and junior guard Wilgus Tolson to hang close. The visitors would tie the score at 89-89 late, but a critical miscue sparked a 6-0 East run, and the home club would hold on to preserve the win.

 For Alice Lloyd (6-3; 0-1 RSC), they were led on the night by Soumahoro, who continued his steller play by pumping in 8-11 field goals and 7-9 free throws for a game-high 23 points. He finished the night with a double-double  down a game-hiby hauling down a game- high 10 rebounds.

 Also reaching double digits were Curry, who bagged 6-8 bombs for 18 points and Tolson, who finished 5-8 from the floor for 17 points. In adition, Tackett and sophomore guard Landon Napier both chipped in with 10 points.

 Junior guard Koji Anderson added a pair of steals, while Tolson recorded 7 assists.

 On the day, the Caney Creek crew finished at 49.2% (32-65) from the field, including 41.9% (13-31) from beyond the arc. They also hit 90.5% (19-21) from the charity stripe, grabbed 29 rebounds, handed out 20 assists, and nabbed 7 steals. 

IUE (5-3) was led by Johnson and Allen, with 23 and 21 points respectively. Their squad connected on a blazing 58.5% (38-65) from the field, including 40.7% (11-27) from long range. They were also 72.7% (16-22) from the charity line. Additionally, they nabbed 35 rebounds, handed off 22 assists, and stole 4 balls. 

The Eagles are off until December 14th, when they travel to Winston-Salem, North Carolina to battle the Carolina Bruins. Tipoff is set at 5:30 p.m.
