Pippa Passes, KY: On November 9th, the Alice Lloyd Eagles returned home for game 2 of the Irma Stepp Memorial Classic, where they faced the Carolina University Bruins (TN). The Eagles would control the contest to take a convincing 86-70 victory.
In the opening stanza, the Eagles came out ready for action, sparked by the play of senior guard Jared Strickland and junior guard Wilgus Tolson. The duo would combine for 22 points and 6 steals in leading the Caney Creek crew to a 43-21 lead at intermission.
In the second half, the Pippa Passes fans saw their team pull out to their first 20 point cushion when Strickland buried a bomb at 14:35 (57-37). From there, senior forward Ben Soumahoro got in on the action as his play would help the hosts roll on until the final buzzer sounded on the sweet victory.
For Alice Lloyd (4-0), they were led on the night by Strickland, who canned 8-12 field goals for a game-high 20 points. He added 5 rebounds and 3 steals. He was followed by Tolson, who stuffed the stat-sheet with 15 points, a team high 6 boards, 4 assists and 6 huge steals.
Soumahoro recorded 13 points and 4 rebounds, while senior guard Jacob Curry chipped in with 8 points. Sophomore forward Jackson Tackett lent 5 assists to the cause and junior guard Koji Anderson swiped 4 steals of his own.
On the day, the Caney Creek crew finished at 47.1% (33-70) from the field, including 26.1% (6-23) from beyond the arc. They also hit 70% (14-20) from the charity stripe, grabbed 27 rebounds, handed out 16 assists and swiped 19 steals.
CU (1-5) was led by Zivko Damjanovi with 18 points. His squad shot 49.2% (29-59) from the field, 30% (6-20) from beyond the arc and 85.7% (6-7) from the foul line. Additionally, they snared 43 rebounds, handed off 18 assists and stole 4 balls. They were hurt drastically as the Eagle defense forced them into 25 turnovers.
