Alice Lloyd Eagles fall at River States top-ranked Saint Mary of the Woods
Saint Mary of the Woods, IN: On Saturday, January 20th, the Alice Lloyd Eagles concluded their Indiana road trip by facing the Saint Mary of the Woods Pomeroy's in River States Conference play. The hosts demonstrated why they are the leagues only undefeated team as they pulled away for the 99-73 victory.
In the opening stanza, the Indiana club bounded out to a quick 10-1 lead in just 2:56 before the Eagles settled down.
Fortunately, over the next six minutes, ALC's Jared Strickland, Jackson Tackett and Jacob Curry would combine to score 16 points in a 19-12 run. With 11:32 showing, the Kentucky men only trailed 22-20.
At the 9:40 mark, and leading 27-25, SMWC would ride the scoring of NCAA DI transfer Cobie Barnes to unleash a devastating 17-0 blitz and roar ahead, 44-25. The Pomeroy's would enter intermission with a 52-33 advantage.
In the second half, the Hoosier gang would ensure there would be no comeback on this night as they came out of the gate on a 9-2 spurt to extend their advantage to 61-35.
From there, the Pippa Passes posse would get within twenty-two (74-52) near the midway point, but that was as close as they would come the remainder of the way.
For Alice Lloyd (10-9, 2-7 RSC), they would place three men in double figures. They were led on the night by senior guard Strickland, who scored 16 points and added 7 rebounds.
He was followed by junior guard Curry, who provided 11 points, sophomore guard Jack Brown, who chipped in with 10 points and freshman forward Tackett, with 9.
Additionally, senior guard Brady Nelson led the club with 3 assists, and 6 different players each nabbed 1 steal.
On the night, ALC shot 40.6% (29-64) from the field, 38.1 % (8-21) from beyond the arc and 86.7% (13-15) from the charity stripe. They grabbed 33 rebounds, handed off 10 assists and stole 6 balls.
SMWC (14-4; 8-0 RSC) was led by Barnes with 24 points. His squad shot 47.4% (36-76) from the field, 38.7% (12-31) from beyond the arc and 75% (15-20) from the charity stripe. They snared 47 rebounds, handed off 16 assists and stole 7 balls.
The Eagles return home on Tuesday, January 23rd, when they face the Indiana Southeast Grenadiers in the bottom half of a critical RSC doubleheader. Tipoff is set for 7:30 PM.
