Big Defensive Effort Propels Alice Lloyd Eagles Over Carlow University

Pittsburgh, PA: The Alice Lloyd Eagles traveled to the Steel City on Thursday, February 2nd, to face the Carlow University Celtics. When the dust had settled, the Kentucky boys used an impressive defensive effort to take down the hosts, 90-53.

The Celtics led 4-3 early, but sparked by solid team defense, and the shooting of senior guard Bryce Slone, ALC would roll of a huge 24-3 run over the next six minutes to sprint ahead, 27-7.

From there, the Eagles defense remained strong as they limited the Celtics to only 8 field goals the entire half. This balancedeffort enabled the Pippa Passes squad to enter intermission holding an impressive 45-24 advantage.

In the second half, Alice Lloyd came out and saw Slonecontinue his unconscious shooting. His fourth consecutive long rang bomb at 13:49 gave his squad a twenty-five-point lead (59-34). 

Every Eagle would get in on the action as twelve different players would play double-figure minutes. The lead would reach its zenith of thirty-nine points (79-38) with over eight minutes remaining as the Caney Creek crew was never challenged inearning the dominate victory.

For Alice Lloyd (12-11; 6-7 RSC), they were led on the day by Slone with 25 points. He drilled 9-15 field goals, including 7-13jumpers from long distance. The junior duo of guard Jared Strickland and forward Ben Soumahoro also hit double-digits as they finished with 13 and 11 points respectively. Senior forward Will Philpot led everyone with 10 rebounds and tied Strickland and Soumahoro with 3 steals apiece. Strickland led the way with 4 assists.

ALC shot 41.3 % (31-72) from the field and 33.3% (12-36) from behind the arc. They sank 69.6% (16-23) from the foul line and added 46 rebounds, 18 assists, and a season high 21 steals.

For Carlow (1-23; 0-13 RSC), Brevan Williams led the Celticssquad with 20 points. His club shot 32.8% (20-61) from the floor and 28% (7-25) from behind the arc. They hit 60% (6-10) from the foul line, and also added 44 rebounds, 14 assists, and 5 steals. 

The Eagles return to action this Saturday, February 4th, in a huge conference showdown at Point Park University. Tipoff is set for 3:00pm.
