Alice Lloyd Eagles Fall in Conference Opener
Pippa Passes, KY: The Alice Lloyd College Eagles gave a solid defensive effort but could not hit the big shot when needed and fell to the Point Park University Pioneers, 69-62. The game was the conference opener for both clubs and took place on November 17th.
In the first half, the squads battled evenly as neither could gain any traction. Alice Lloyd would take their largest lead of the night (27-23) following consecutive buckets from senior forward Will Philpot and freshman guard Jack Brown before PPU closed on an 11-2 run. Point Park led 34-29 at intermission.
In the second half, ALC would battle back and regain the advantage at 44-42 when sophomore forward Blaine Keathley sank a short jumper. From that point, the Pioneers rolled off a 9-0 run and went ahead 51-42.
The Eagles would dig in once more and slice the deficit to just one (60-59) after a drive from junior forward Damon Tobler. Unfortunately, on their next possession, PPU guard Jo Valrie would connect on a huge bomb, and the Pioneers would hold on from there for the road win.
For the Eagles (1-5; 0-1 RSC), they had two players reach double figures. Philpot was impressive as he registered a double-double with 18 points and 18 huge rebounds. Senior guard Bryce Slone added 10 points. Tobler added 9 points and led with 2 blocks, while Keathley chipped in with 6 rebounds and led the club with 3 assists.
Alice Lloyd shot 40.3% (27-67) from the floor, 21.7% (5-23) from behind the arc, and just 33.3% (3-9) from the foul line. Additionally, they had 39 rebounds, 9 assists, and 3 steals.
PPU (5-0; 1-0 RSC) was led by Valrie with 21 points. His club shot 32.9% (25-76) from the floor, 25.8% (8-31) from behind the arc, and 63.8% (11-16) from the foul line. Additionally, they had 49 rebounds, 5 assists, and 7 steals.
