ALC Baseball falls at Kentucky Christian, 8-3

Grayson, KY: The Alice Lloyd College Eagles (29-15) baseball team returned to the field on April 22nd to face the host Kentucky Christian University Knights (17-15) in a nine-inning contest. The boys from Caney Creek hurt themselves with several errors and dropped an 8-3 decision.

The hosts struck in the second, using a hit-batter and sacrifice fly to plate a pair of runs, 2-0.

The Eagles made those up in the fourth, when Aaron Rothballer (DH) got all of a fast ball and drove it over the fence for a solo- homer. (1-0) Later, after Kyle Compton (3B) singled and stole second, Elijah Breeding (RF) laced a triple to bring him home and knot the contest up, 2-2.

However, KCU used an RBI-single to regain the lead in the bottom of the inning (3-2). They then increased it in the sixth on a fielder choice (4-2).

The Caney Creek crew would gain a run back in the seventh when Jayden Huff (LF) doubled in a teammate (4-3). Unfortunately, the Knights would use a single and Eagle error to gain a pair of runs in the same inning (6-3), then use a two-run single in the eighth to pull away (8-3). Although the blue and white placed a pair of runners on the basepaths in their final opportunity, they would go down on strikes to end the contest.

At the plate, Diego Rodriguez went 4-5 while Compton and Breeding finished 2-4. RothballerHuff, and Breeding each had 1 RBI.

Colton Lovelace started on the mound, lasting 2 innings. He allowed 4 hits and 2 runs.

Sunny Smith and Trenton Williams followed, each tossing 2 innings. Smith was credited with the loss, despite allowing just 3 hits and 1 run while whiffing 3. Williams allowed 3 hits and 1 run with 2 strikeouts.

Ryan Grubbs and Matthew Hebar each appeared in 1 inning. Both gave up 1 hit and 2 runs while Hebar recorded 1 K.

The squads tied with 12 hits apiece, but committed the games only 3 errors.
