ALC Baseball earns road victory over Wilberforce University, 10-4

Wilberforce, OH: The Alice Lloyd College Eagles (7-2) baseball team traversed to the Buckeye State for a match against Wilberforce University (2-4). The Eagles would head back to Pippa Passes with a 10-4 victory.

February 18th

Alice Lloyd-10; Wilberforce-4

The Bluegrass squad opened the scoring in the first on a single from Carson Tate (2B), to take a 1-0 lead.

In the second inning, a single from John Lopez (RF) made the score 2-0. One inning later, a sacrafice fly gave the Caney Creek crew a 3-0 cushion.

In the bottom of the inning, the Bulldogs chipped into the deficit with a double (3-1). However, the Pass quickly responded in the fourth, receiving a gift balk from the WU pitcher and a single from Cole Bishop (1B) to plate a pair of runs. Now the scoreboard read 5-1.

The hosts drove a double in their next-at-bat that made up those two runs (7-3). Happily for the Eagle fans, they would answer once more.

In the seventh, with two Eagles on the basepaths, Diego Rodriguez singled. Wilberforce bobbled the ball, and then made a wild throw attempting to pick the runner off of third base. The errant throw permitted a trio of Caney Creekers to race home, and propel the guests to a big 10-3 advantage.

Although the Bulldogs would add another score in the eighth on another double (10-4), the Kentucky club would clamp down to take the nice victory.

At the plate, Bishop and Rodriguez led the blue and white with 2 hits apiece, while Rothballer drove in 2 runs. Tate swiped 3 bases to lead in that department.

Cain Flynn started on the mound for ALC and took the win. He allowed 1 earned runs on 4 hits in 6 innings of work.  He stuck out 5. In relief, Parker Williams tossed one inning of 1-hit ball while Seth Fitch tossed the final two innings, allowing  2 hits and 1 run with 1 K.

The hosts were outhit 8-7 and committed 5 errors compared to the Eagles 4.
