ALC Eagles Baseball takes sweep over Kent State Tuscarawas

Pippa Passes, KY: The Alice Lloyd College Eagles (6-2) baseball team returned to the diamond on Valentines Day to face the Kent State Tuscarawas Ohio Golden Eagles (5-5). The hosts would show some love to the home fans by taking both contests.

February 14th

Game 1

Alice Lloyd-9: KST-2

The Eagles opened the scoring right out of the gate as they used doubles from Diego Rodriguez (SS) and Carson Tate (2B) to plate a trio of runs (3-0).

Kent earned 1 run back in the third on a fielders choice (3-1), only to see ALC''s Aaron Rothballer answer with a blast over the left field fence. After three innings of action, the scoreboard read 6-1.

The Caney Creek clubbers added 2 in the fourth, fueled by a Tate single (8-10). In the very next inning, Tate added to his big game by lacing a double down the line to make the score 9-1.

The Golden Eagles added a late score in the sixth, but they would go down in the final inning to end the festivities.

 

At the plate, Rodriguez (4-4) and Tate (3-4) led in hits, while Tate recorded 3 RBI's. Rothballer added a homerun, and Rodriguez swiped 3 bases.

Sunny Smith started on the mound for ALC and took the win. He allowed 2 earned runs on 6 hits in 6 innings of work.  He stuck out 6. Braydon Norton closed out the seventh, allowing 2 hits and 0 runs with 1 whiff.

The hosts won the hitting battle 10-8 and committed 0 errors compared to KS's 2. They also dominated in steals, 6-0.

Game 2

Alice Lloyd-11:  KST-4

The Eagles led from start to finish in earning the victory.

The Pippa Passes posse would start out right, moving ahead 1-0 in the first on Cole Bishop's (C) single.

The Caney Creek crew then plated 3 in the second, fueled by doubles from Colton Lovelace (SS) and Rodriguez (2B). This gave them a 4-0 cushion.

The Golden Eagles would respond with 1 run in the fourth inning (4-1) but the Eagles responded with another 4-spot, delivered by a trio of singles from Lovelace and Grover Maynard (LF) and a double from Bishop (8-1).

In the sixth, Kent State received a gift-run on a walk (8-2), but they gave it right back in the bottom half on a wild pitch (9-2). Later in the inning, Caney Creeker Eric Lasso drove in a pair of runs with a single. The score was now 11-2.

In the final inning, Tuscarawas smacked a nice double to make the score 11-4. However, they would go down after that, handing the sweep to the Eagles.

At the plate, Rodriguez , Bishop, and Lovelace all had 2 hits , while Lovelace recorded 3 RBI's. 

Quentin Williams started on the mound for ALC and took the win. He allowed 1 earned runs on 3 hits in 3.1 innings of work.  He stuck out 3. Seth Fitch, Thomas Forehand, Noah Lawson, and Gibbs Cochran all saw relief action. In 3.2 innings, they combined for 3 hits, 3 runs, and 5 whiffs.

The hosts won the hitting battle 12-6 and both squads committed 1 error. ALC added 1 steal.
