Alice Lloyd Baseball falls in 11 innings at Kentucky Christian University

Alice Lloyd - 3; KCU-4: Eleven Innings

Grayson KY: The Alice Lloyd College Eagles baseball team (20-19) ventured to Grayson on March 22nd, for a single game showdown against Kentucky Christian University (15-27). The guests came back late and forced extra-innings, only to see the home squad gain a run in the eleventh inning to win, 4-3.

The Knights stuck paydirt in the second with a solo blast to right field gave them a 1-0 lead. Fortunately, ALC would take over in the third, relying on a Kyle Johnson (CF) double and run-producing singles from Diego Rodriguez and Cory Jefferson (3B). This gave them a 2-1 advantage.

In the bottom of the same inning, KCU would roll off consecutive singles and earn a run of their own to tie the match up at 2-2.

Then, in the bottom of the fifth, a pair of walks and crucial Kentucky Christian single would break the tie, leading to a 3-2 cushion for the home squad.

Things stayed that way until the eighth when a single from Johnson and grounder would advance him to scoring position. 

Things remained unaltered until the eighth, when Johnson led off with a single for the Caney Creek crew, advance to third on a grounder, then trotted home on Jefferesons sacrifice (3-3). The contest would then head into extra-innings.

The Pippa Passes posse would place a pair of runners on base in the tenth, and one more in the eleventh, but were unable to get the clutch hit when they needed it.

Meanwhile, in the KCU eleventh, the leadoff man opened with a single, and promptly stole second. A crucial double then brought him all the way home, handing the Knights a big 4-3 victory.

At the plate for Alice Lloyd, Johnson and Jayden Huff (LF) both smacked a pair of hits. while Jefferson would deliver 2 RBI's.

On the mound, Dawson Beckett started and went 5 innings. He allowed just 3 runs on 6 hits, with 2 strikeouts. Cain Flynn suffered the tough loss, giving up 1 run on  5 hits in 5 innings. He struck out 3 more batters.

ALC was outhit, 11-7, but played error-free ball.
