ALC Eagles Baseball hosts Wright State-Lake in three game series
Pippa Passes, KY: The Alice Lloyd College Eagles baseball team returned home on February 16th to face the Wright State-Lake Lakers in a three-game series. The day proved challenging as the Lakers would earn the sweep. ALC's record now moves to 3-6, while the Ohio crew now sits at 4-2.

Game 1
Alice Lloyd-3; WSL-5
In the opening contest, the Lakers opened the contest with a double that sparked a 2-run inning (2-0). The Eagles earned one back in the bottom half as TJay Mullins (LF) rapped a double (2-1).
In the second, WSL singled and used a fielder's choice to gain two more scores (4-1). However, Ryan Cozart (3B) came through with a blast for the hosts over the left field fence to half the deficit once more (4-2).
ALC inched closer in the fourth when Wyatt Hobgood drilled a triple to center to shrink the deficit to 4-3.
However, in the fifth, a clutch double by Wright State gave them a big insurance run. The Ohio squad was then able to preserve their advantage until the final out.
The Caney Creek boys registered 5 hits on the day compared to WSL's 13. They also committed 2 errors compared to the Lakers 0.
On the mound, Chase Conley started and suffered the loss. He allowed 8 hits and 4 runs in 2.1 innings with 1 strikeout. Jaycob Ayers tossed the last 4.2 innings, giving up 5 hits and 1 run with 3 K's.
Game 2

In this contest, the visitors dented the scoreboard first, using a single to drive in the opening run (1-0).
Alice Lloyd answered in the same inning when Mullins drove a long sacrifice fly to the warning track to bring in Cory Jefferson (SS) from third. Later, Challen Massengill (RF) singled to plate pinch runner Diego Rodriguez (2-1).
In the fourth, an Eagle wild pitch permitted the tying run to race home (2-2). The score then remained unchanged until the seventh.
In that inning, with a Laker runner on third base, an error brought him home (3-2). Unfortunately, the home squad was unable to plate the tying run in their last at-bat.
The Eagles registered 6 hits for the game with Cozart and Caleb Justice (3B) each doubling.
On the mound, Dawson Beckett suffered the tough loss. In 7 innings, he allowed just 5 hits and 2 earned runs. He added 7 strikeouts.
The victors produced 5 hits while ALC hurt themselves with 4 errors, compared to WSL with 0.
Game 3

The Lakers jumped out to a 5-0 lead and preserved it for the win.
WSL jumped on top in the third inning, when they utilized a triple to leap ahead, 3-0.
Unfortunately, one inning later a two-run blast helped boost their advantage to five (5-0).
In the fifth, Justice opened with a double. Next, a double from ALC's Rodriguez drove in the score (5-1). However, he was left stranded on base, ending the threat.
In the sixth, Wright State smacked a triple. They then drove the runner in to pull ahead, 6-1. From there, they would close out the contest and earn the sweep.
The hosts registered 4 hits on the day. Rodriguez provided half of them and knocked in the lone RBI.
On the mound, Gibbs Cochran started and suffered the loss as he allowed 7 hits and 5 runs in four innings. He struck out 3.
Sunny Smith relieved two innings, allowing 3 hits and 1 run. Karsten Dixon closed out the final inning, allowing 1 hit.
The Lakers had 11 hits, and 0 errors. ALC committed 2 errors, which proved costly.
